Reiss returns policy

DP got me a coat from Reiss for Christmas. It's gorgeous but sadly just a bit snug. Unfortunately he purchased it in November which means we are now outside of their normal 14 day return policy as well as their Christmas policy of accepting returns for purchases made after 24th November. Does anyone know if this applies for exchanges as well? I don't want cash, I just want a coat that fits!! So I would be happy with store credit or a straight exchange. Thanks Smile

If you know they still sell it don’t even take the receipt, if it’s just a straight exchange why do they need to know when it was bought?

CoffeenoTea · 25/12/2017 17:01

As most places need to see proof of purchase. We do where I work. So yes if we had the size you require we would shop if you had proof of purchase.

MsHippo · 25/12/2017 17:05

Even though they state a 14 day policy?

Also, do you think they would allow me to swap the style or just the size? Obviously I will ask the store when I can, but just wondering if anyone has any insight.

Phone the store and ask.

MsHippo · 26/12/2017 12:45

I will! But they're customer service open until tomorrow and DP was really worried/concerned that he's wasted a lot of money if we can't exchange it, and I wanted to ease his mind a little.

Most shops extend their usual returns dates for Christmas returns. They'll let you exchange it with the receipt.

Tollygunge · 26/12/2017 12:54

Reiss are a bit shit when it comes to returns I’m afraid so I imagine they might not

Ihavepatrick · 26/12/2017 12:59

Do take the receipt with you though, some shops will only give you the current selling price, if you're wanting to exchange it for new stock iykwim

Bombardier25966 · 26/12/2017 13:17

What you're asking for is outside their returns policy, and outside of any statutory rights you have, so it's down to goodwill. Take your receipt (if not, you could have bought it anywhere, or stolen it!), explain you would like to exchange it and see what they say. They may offer an exchange to full value, or to the current selling price, or a credit note to full or current value. Or they may do nothing at all, which wouldn't be unlawful but would lbe pretty grinchlike.

Bombardier25966 · 26/12/2017 13:18

@Ihavepatrick, OP has already said the coat was purchased too early to qualify for the Christmas returns policy.

Ihavepatrick · 26/12/2017 13:34

Yes but as I was previously a store manager, in a clothes shop selling similar items to Reiss, I would allow that return even though it wasn't bought during the Christmas return period. If a customer is polite and explains the situation in a nice way, there's usually a way to sort it out. A coat bought in November, which is obviously unworn and with tags on, is something that Reiss will be able to still sell. And the op/customer might well spend more money while she's there.

harrietsoton · 26/12/2017 15:01

I’m not sure about Reiss exactly but you could do a ‘no receipt exchange’ and tell them that it was a gift. Obviously you’d only be given an exchange for current selling price, so if it was £100 down to £50, you can only exchange it for £50.

harrietsoton · 26/12/2017 15:04

Actually ignore that. They do not offer exchanges without a receipt, period. And you’re outside of the returns period unfortunately.

As a last resort you could contact customer services/management and explain that your husband bought it as a gift before their Christmas return policy began and see if they can help

I have had a bad experience with Reiss and as a result I will only buy their clothes via John Lewis.

I would try to exchange though, if you have a receipt and the style is still sold I don't know what they have to gain by refusing the exchange.

MsHippo · 26/12/2017 22:22

Thanks a lot for your help folks. I'll try taking it in with the receipt tomorrow, and asking really nicely!

Hurrah! They let me exchange it, no quibbles. One happy punter here Grin

That's good :). Because I lost a lot of weight this year, I had several bits of clothing unworn and still with labels. The ONLY retailer who wouldn't give me a full price credit note or exchange for in stock items was M&S (who in one case would only give me current price for an item bought 36 days previously, i.e. one day outside their returns period, even though I had the receipt). I was amazed how helpful everywhere else was. Being really nice and explaining the reason got me great results with everyone else though.
