Tips for wearing high heels!

Usually wear flats but have splashed out on a new dress for Christmas do. Have been looking for comfortable mid height heels and have tried at least 20 pairs. Really need a strap to keep my feet in the shoes. Finally bought these with laces - arrived today but heels are higher than I thought! So.....any tips for wearing them - walking/ dancing etc much appreciated. Can't spend any more time looking for others now so will have to grin and bear them for the night!

Lovely outfit! You can get gel patches that go down at the ball of your foot or else at the heel. If you're not wearing tights they might help...it depends on what part of your foot gets sore? I try not to go too much standing around, especially early in the night before alcohol numbs things Grin

Loooove those tassels!

Get yourself to Primark for all the shoe padding you'll ever need - they do all the "party feet" style inserts for a pound or two.

I've never heard of gel patches and padding. What a revelation! Thanks. Any tips on how to look steady with heels? Seem to be ok on carpet at home, but I go wobbly on laminate and kitchen tiles!

Tape your third and forth toes together (counting from big toe!) it helps stop foot ache!
As walking in them it’s just practice.

When is the do? If you have time, go to a cobbler and ask for a half rubber sole on the shoes. That will keep you steady on slippy surfaces. It's very thin- not noticeable at all.

If you don't have time for that you could score the sole with a scissors, I know it sounds a bit mad, but if you do it lightly it creates a grip on the sole.

Get some stick on grippy soles from a cobbler. They'll give you some grip on smooth floors so you don't skid around

Don't waste you time with the gel inserts. They move around in your shoe and according to a podiatrist on savvy shoppers the other week they don't make any noticeable difference and I can concur with this.

Take some emergency flats is about all I have. Only time I've ever had heels with no pain was when I wore them every single day and my feet just got accustomed.

Rub the soles with sandpaper, or find a gravelly surface and scrape the bottom of the shoes on them, if you don't want to score them with a knife/scissors. Break them in as much as you can wearing socks before you go, and sit down a lot on the night.

Heel-toe, heel-toe. In other words when you lift your foot up go back down with your heel first then the ball of your foot.

Alabasterangel6 · 21/12/2017 22:36

Footpetals. Unlike gel cushions these do work, very well.

Probably not to be advised but I have a relative who takes a medicinal pain relieving gel (Voltarol!) in her bag and puts that on the balls of her feet if they start to hurt Confused Shock

Lots of good advice here. Thank you for your help. Will act on all of it and keep upright on Saturday night. Really appreciate all of your help.....#high heel rookie!

Took shoes to cobbler who put a thin extra grip half sole on them. Stayed upright all night - danced for 3 hours solid! Colleagues 20 years younger had to keep having a rest. Two glasses of wine with sparkling water inbetween was all I had to drink. Enjoyed it. Thanks all for your advice.
