Can we have a thread for those of us with naturally crap hair?

I often read on here about how to look expensive / put together / smart etc and everyone always says nice hair is key.

I have naturally crap hair. It is fine, frizzy, flyaway, doesn't hold a style for more than 10 seconds, is really fragile, breaks easily.

I visited the hairdresser today and she was trying to convince me that my hair is this way as I don't use the £20 a bottle salon shampoos etc, but even when I did treat myself to all Kerastase products my hair was still just as crap!

I just find it hard to look nice as my hair always lets me down.

Anyone else and any tips? Other than wear a hat.....

Me!!!

Thick , dry, frizzy, curly, has to be at least shoulder length to tie back, which means it is really wide.

Cheesymonster · 21/12/2017 18:33

Mines fine and thin. I've just decided to stop blow drying it for a while to see if that makes any difference. I've just ordered some Bumble and Bumble Don't Blow It.

C0untDucku1a · 21/12/2017 18:36

Joining crap hair thread with grey i dont see the point of colouring as itnis so shit

SexualTyrannosaurus · 21/12/2017 18:55

Yep, mines dead straight and boring and now grey since i grew all the highlights out, i always wanted curly hair! Both DDs have curly hair and want it straightHmm

EyeSaidTheFly · 21/12/2017 19:01

Sometimes my hair can look really lovely, which makes the most of the time when looks crap feel even worse because I know it can do better, it just doesn't want to! It's not curly enough to have curls, not straight enough to shine. Just frizzy mostly (and yes, I do do the curly girl method).

I'm not into self loathing but occasionally I catch sight of myself in the mirror and I see a cavewoman. Sometimes a witch.

Strummerville · 21/12/2017 19:04

Mine used to be nice, but has been crap since I developed thyroid problems. They're under control now but my hair remains rubbish Sad

It's thin, fine and fragile. Looks OK-ish if I straighten the hell out of it but don't like to do that as it does so much damage.

I sometimes like to put it in 6-8 mini plaits when wet and then sleep on it, when the plaits come out it looks much more volumised and the waves make it look healthier.

Bringmewineandcake · 21/12/2017 19:10

Frizzy, fine, vague patches of shorter regrowth (thanks DDs). Recently asked for frizzease as a treat for my birthday, did bugger all!!

Lovelymonkeyninetynine · 21/12/2017 19:15

ME! fine, thin, mousey, not straight or curly, easily damaged. Ugh. Loved it short but it’s so time consuming to keep up.

Lovelymonkeyninetynine · 21/12/2017 19:19

To be actually helpful the only things that have helped: Philip Kingsley elasticizer after a clarifying shampoo, babyliss big hair then ghds, and giving my hair a break from heat whenever I can. It’s the bane of my life though.

grasspigeons · 21/12/2017 19:22

thin, fine, straight and mousy. I cant even get hair grips to stay in, they just slide out. It just hands
Although, it can look greasy if I want a change of texture

grasspigeons · 21/12/2017 19:23

hangs - not hands

Unicorn81 · 21/12/2017 20:15

Same type of hair here, use expensive shampoos etc but it doesnt always help. Ive recently been using philip kingsley elastisizer a couple of times a week plus his shampoo and conditioner and its really helped my hair. i tend to use a variety, loccitane do a good hair repair as does redken.

For cheaper options i also love coco loco from lee stafford

mistermagpie · 21/12/2017 20:25

My hair is terrible, thin, frizzy, flyaway, breaks all the time etc etc etc. If I could wave a magic wand over any element of my appearance it would be my hair. I can't do a thing with it, no updo or curls or anything ever works and even hairdressers can't dry it nicely.

The only solution I have found is a short-ish bob and get it coloured nicely. Any longer than shoulder length and it looks awful anyway!

emwithme · 21/12/2017 20:32

Oh this is my thread.

My hair is fine, frizzy on top, randomly shorter at the front (as if I've had a fringe cut but I haven't, and it hasn't grown in 6 months since I had a MC). Going grey but hey, it's been doing that for YEARS. Have to straighten it if I don't want to look like a cross between Dougal from the Magic Roundabout and Crystal Tipps.

Tried the curly girl method. Did nothing.
Tried expensive shampoo recommended by my (excellent) hairdresser. Did nothing.

It's just past shoulder length and doing my head in. It may be all getting chopped off in January.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 21/12/2017 20:37

Really really thick, neither wavy nor straight just sort of kinky and frizzy. Takes an absolute age to dry and style so usually only looks semi decent every 6 months or so when the hairdresser does it. I can't even have a messy bun anymore either because I had the bright idea of have a long bob that looks friggin shit and won't all tie up.

Oh and I have a lovely halo of regrowth around my hairline where I had pregnancy hair loss.

endthefarts · 21/12/2017 20:54

Me! Very frizzy and wavy/curly but not much of it so v thin and fair be when straightened. I can straighten it to buggery using lots of lovely products and spray it and everything and if there is even a suggestion of
Moisture or humidity outside it is back to its frizzy, pouffy self within 30 seconds and that is no exaggeration. It is awful.

takemycounty · 21/12/2017 21:10

Me. Highlighted to hide grey, lank, straight, bob that doesn't grown.
Dry, split sticky-out ends and flat on my scalp.

Elasticiser makes it lanker, BBH frazzles the ends.

Creatureofthenight · 21/12/2017 21:14

Sounds like we are hair twins OP! Mine looks even worse now due to post pregnancy hair loss Sad

Sparkybloke · 21/12/2017 21:16

Be thankful you still have hair! For many of us men hair is a distant memory😀

VivaLeBeaver · 21/12/2017 21:21

Me. Recently had it cut short as was fed up of thick, long, no style hair. Now it just looks short and awful rather than long and awful. I feel I should be able to style it now it’s so short but not much of an idea what to do. I’ve bought wax stuff (expensive from the hairdresser) and it makes no difference to the style, just makes it look greasy rather than fluffy.

pandarific · 21/12/2017 23:36

For fine haired people, give L’Oréal Fibrology shampoo and conditioner a go - they’re really good!

donajimena · 21/12/2017 23:40

Mine is poker straight, fine and not glossy. I wear it in a pleat all the time. It hangs lifelessly if I wear it down.

ClementineWardrobe · 21/12/2017 23:49

I'll join. Thinner at the front, scalp visible under direct light. Straight but with a huge cow lick above my right eye. Falls out all the time and goes everywhere; it's the finest hair in the world, no contest. I'm one of those people who look like they've been electrocuted in the slightest breeze. Nondescript colour too. Streak of white at the front, my brother and sisters have the same streak. I gave up decades ago trying to get it to look nice, I'm just grateful to have any after years of much more severe hair loss in my twenties.

EveMoneypenny · 21/12/2017 23:49

My hair is actually mostly OK but is ruined by a halo of surface frizz that sticks up permanently. The hairs that would form a fringe if I had one never grow longer than about chin length and stick up in a frizzy mess like a mad scientist. Had a couple of attempts at curly girl years ago - my hair felt nice but it's irregularly wavy rather than curly so just looked unkempt and it really aggravated a patch of psoriasis on my hairline.

Evilstepmum01 · 22/12/2017 00:07

I'm in. Thick wavy Celtic hair in brown with white mallen streak. Falls into ringlets if cut properly and moussed.
Blinds me in high winds. Currently sporting a mullet due to bad haircut, so growing out the too short layers as it's just not sitting right.
Got a double crown that whirls in different directions, every days a mystery.
Usually tie in ponytail but crappy cut means it's too short, so giving it a quick straighten, then a hair slide holds the thick cow lick bit out my eyes.
All I get is oh I wish my hair was curly like yours.
No. No you don't.
Tried curly girl, gave up.
When it's longer and I mousse it, it looks decent.
Mostly.
