Hello All,

I will be going for my very first pantomime this Boxing Day. Excited! I'm not British and not lived in UK for long. DH is British and is of no help what so ever. Tells me to wear something nice! Eh?

I am 5 7" size 12 and still breastfeeding the 18 month old so something friendly to taking boobs out.

Dear MN please help. I'm so looking forward to it and as you can well guess I don't get out much.

I just wear jeans and a top. nobody will see you.

neveradullmoment99 · 20/12/2017 18:13

Personally i would just do smart casual. A nice top and jeans?

AlexanderHamilton · 20/12/2017 18:13

Regional or London?

Just normal clothes. Layers as it will be cold outside & wRm in the theatre.

Thank you for the replies. A nice top and jeans it is then. Smile

What you wear isn’t important

What is important is that you know how to participate if it’s your first!!!

Do you know all the lines

‘Oh yes he is!’ ‘Oh no he isn’t!’
“He’s behiiiiind you!’

etc ad nauseam

Have a great time!

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 20/12/2017 18:22

I'm wearing my cute new Christmas dress because it's the only excuse I have to wear it.

user1489792710 · 20/12/2017 18:28

Taffeta I need to know lines?! Great. Off to practice Smile

Nighty Nighty - "pyjamas pyjamas"

Alltheprettyseahorses · 20/12/2017 18:35

Don't wear anything too fancy. Certainly nothing that can't get wet. Grin

Footle · 20/12/2017 18:53

You could be the back half of a cow..
not being rude, that's a joke which I hope you will get when you see the panto.

cod · 20/12/2017 18:55

oh ffs

anything

HateSummer · 20/12/2017 19:01

I usually bring out my brightest and most flamboyant glittery dress. Teamed up with some buckled clogs and a pretty handbag. Hair wise, I just do my usual beehive.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 20/12/2017 19:09

Headphones and a sleeping mask.

Lunde · 20/12/2017 19:13

Smart casual

If you are in the front row you may want old clothes (remembers going to a panto where DDs favourites from CBBC were performing - Bodger & Badger - and the front row got covered in the mashed potato!!)

YesThisIsMe · 20/12/2017 19:18

Not suede or dry clean only silk because you may get wet. Other than that, something comfortable that you look and feel nice in but not too hot. I think especially on Boxing Day most people will dress up a bit more than usual eg in a sparkly/velvet/lacy top and either your best jeans or a long skirt and boots. Are you eating out afterwards?

Most DDs over the age of 18 months will probably relish the opportunity to wear their most glittery princess dresses (or pirate costume if they’re that way inclined).

You’ll have a lovely time.

Oh yes you will!

user1489792710 · 20/12/2017 19:22

Worried now. Why am I going to get wet? Do I need to take my raincoat?

We are in Scotland and it's for Aladdin. I'm looking forward to a cows bottom half Smile

DD going in glittery tu tu.

Some pantos squirt water into the audience- not all of them though.

Maudlinmaud · 20/12/2017 19:29

Op you sound so excited. I hope you won't be terribly let down.

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 21/12/2017 00:43

You don't need to dress up - just wear what you would normally wear to go out and about in.

MulhuddartDrive · 21/12/2017 10:26

Layers. Wear layers. I always go from freezing to roasting and back again at the panto.

We're going today. Oh no we're not! Oh yes we are!

CountFosco · 21/12/2017 13:32

Don't worry about what to wear, pantos are a great social mix so you will see all sorts of outfits.

Now, the important stuff. You know about the cross dressing? Are you up to date on local politics and which areas are rough and poor? Are you prepared to sing? Do you like being pelted with sweeties and are you going on your birthday? Seriously, panto is completely mad and great fun, took SIL and her Thai partner last year, first time they'd ever seen one and they loved it!

CakeInMyFace · 21/12/2017 18:41

I just went to my first panto a few days ago, not British born either but lived in the UK for 13 years. Took my 6 year old and wore a glittery Christmas jumper and jeans - I fit right in!

user1489792710 · 26/12/2017 19:05

Thank you everyone for the suggestions! We've just got back from the panto. Loved it!! It was a novel experience. Even DH who was feeling down with a terminal case of the man flu managed to booWink. Looking forward to next year. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you all.

Wear casual clothes like jeans. A panto is not a dressing up occasion.

Do wear a rictus grin. Or is that just me?

Footle · 27/12/2017 07:41

Lovely update, glad you had a good time!
