Warm dark brown hair shade-what colour to ask for that's not aging?

Hi, I'm getting my hair coloured this week, it's quite a flat dark brown at the moment almost black, I asked for a flat colour as I didn't want any red or copper tones coming through.
Now I'm wondering should I get a warmer shade (grey coverage most important factor!) & is a dark redish brown less aging than an almost black colour, my hair is quite long & layered.

Go 1-2 shades lighter than your natural colour if you want it to be more flattering. Artificial Black colour always looks aging on anyone over 25.

Agree it needs to be lighter and if pos a mixture of different colours if you have the cash you could have highlights

Thanks will ask her to go a couple of shades lighter, I am finding the blackish brown quite aging, I'm mid 30's, pale skinned... Lymmmummy can't afford the maintenance of highlights:

Go for balayage and then the maintenance becomes far less of an issue since the colours start part way down anyway.

You’re right hughlight are pricey - I have similarish colour hair and have found that mixing 2 different shades and going a bit lighter especially if using box colours can help to avoid hair looking too dark and flat

Good luck - let us know how you get on !!

Lowlights are pretty good to break up dark brown hair slightly, and they're so subtle you don't have the regrowth/maintenance problem.

Booked a tint & the appointments are fully booked so will need to stick with full colour, I'll ask about lowlights tomorrow. It will feel strange going a couple of shades lighter as I'm used to being so dark. Hoping it will make me look less frumpy & mumsy!!

I have lots of high and lowlights put in mine with the overall intention of looking the same sort of light brown non eye-catching colour I've always been, and I think it works. My hair is not all that grey so I can get away with a cycle of cut, 1/2 head, cut, full head with appointments every 6 weeks. I budget £55 per month for all this and generally have a bit left over in the kitty at the end of the year.

Sometimes I think highlights and too much work on hair looks mumsy. I have my roots done around my natural colour but add a tiny bit of warmth not much. I do prefer ashy tones but as I get older these colours are too flat on my compexion now.

If after you have a full colour you only get your roots done monthly you will find the rest of your hair has interesting tones naturally.
