They are expensive - but are they any good?

I'm very tempted to get one but it's a hell of a lot of money- does anyone here have one and if so would you recommend?

Thank you!

I have one and love it. Particularly if used with the two products - a smoother and serum that give a lovely finish.

Thank you. Very tempted now!!!

I would recommend it only if you have longish hair. I loved mine when my hair was shoulder length and longer but now I find my hair too short, it needs to be able to be held away from the head otherwise you’ll scald yourself with the steam!

Piratesandpants · 17/12/2017 17:26

Love mine! Products work so much better with it. Much less damage than when I had GHDs. I have long, thick hair.

RitaPanda · 17/12/2017 19:27

Yep I love mine. I have curly hair. I find if I use the Steampod results last until next wash.

Ofgreetingsandgoodbyes · 17/12/2017 20:35

I have one. It's good, but you will still need to use normal straighteners too as it's really cumbersome so is terrible for the front and top of hair. Also is near impossible to curl with it (even though the YouTube videos say otherwise!).

RitaPanda · 17/12/2017 20:57

I agree ofgreetings.
I still use my ghd to finish off & also if I travel as the steampod is massive

weetabix07 · 19/12/2017 12:43

Thank you all. My hair is long and naturally straight ish - I wouldn't want to spend all that money then have to use GHDS but that said I may get away with it with the type of hair I have..

Are they better than GHDS or cloud 9's would you say?

For me personally, reasons why Steampod is better than GHDs are:

  1. Quicker, as I only need to go over each section of hair once
  2. Results last longer - meaning I use it less
  3. Hair seems in better condition than when I was using GHDs all the time. I have naturally very weak, rubbish hair though!
  4. Different temperature settings (which my GHDs don't have, but maybe the more modern models do? Mine are very old).

Reasons why GHDs are better:

  1. Smaller and more portable, if you travel a lot Steampod not ideal
  2. Better for getting into the roots, as I find Steampod a bit cumbersome

My Steampod is over 2 years old so they may have changed the design slightly in that time.

Ofgreetingsandgoodbyes · 19/12/2017 20:02

If I only got to keep one, it would be the ghd not the steampod. It really is crap for the roots and top of hair. But it is very nice for the lengths. It is not portable at all as well as is huge with the attached water pod. And you can't curl with it like a straightener.

Can you afford both? That would be the best option!Smile

weetabix07 · 19/12/2017 21:13

Haha! I wish I could, in another lifetime perhaps. I don't travel much. And when I do I don't mind shoving a bigger thing in my case. I do have shitty straighteners I can use also. But I want something that's gonna do the job fast and furious. I reckon I'll see if I can try out the pod somewhere. Is it a faff to fill with water and all this stuff?

OP posts:
Ofgreetingsandgoodbyes · 19/12/2017 22:03

Perhaps see if you have a local hairdressers that uses them?

It's not a faff with the water or anything like that if they are staying in one place anyway. I really don't rate the products they sell specifically for it though- the Serum is very very greasy and the straightening cream leaves a bit of a residue on the hair. You can buy much nicer heat protection products/creams for the same price or less. (If you want a nice heat protecting styling cream, the Aveda Brilliant stuff is tons better)

They are a good product, but for me they aren't a quick fix on their own as they don't do the job fully.

itsalldyingout · 21/01/2018 22:22

Did you get one OP?

I love mine - have had them over 3 years, but have only ever used the de-ionised water (for batteries and irons etc., found in the car aisle in supermarkets for about £1).

They saved my hair after I ruined it daily with GHDs. I don't have to do a daily re-style either.

As for getting to the roots, well I'm not a fan of the dead straight and flat look so a bit of lift is fine. I can curl with them, but it is a bit more difficult than with GHDs.
