Any suggestions for something to soothe a face that is sore and reddened from the cold?

My face goes red in the wind and cold, but it's also a bit sore.

Also I try and double cleanse when I've been wearing makeup (don't wear everyday but have been wearing it quite a lot recently for Xmas parties etc) but I'm finding it's too much as my skin is already sore.

Any suggestions for something to soothe it? But that won't block pores (acne prone).

Use Cerave face wash and moisturiser. Simple oil to remove makeup.

Lrp cicaplast b5 repair baume is very soothing, but I can't comment on the pore blocking part.

Try Weleda Skin Food.
I paste it on me and leave it soak in. Works wonders and it’s pretty natural too.

Renfrewshire · 17/12/2017 09:38

Thanks both.

I've checked out the cicaplast and unfortunately it has shea butter in and a different LRP moisturiser I used before (and which is described as non-comodogenic) brought me out in whiteheads and I think it was the shea butter. It's a shame because I ended up using it as a hand cream and it healed up the various cuts and redness I had on my hands, so it's obviously a good product.

The Weleda looks to be ok so I'm going to look into that, thank you.

I love the Sisley black rose mask. It is super soothing and makes you look like you’ve just had 12 hours sleep. I wear it to bed and let it soak in all night when my skin needs extra help from too much partying and not enough sleep.

My dd had some red and sore bits on her face after being out in the cold and the only thing I had in the house was the Weleda nappy cream. It completely cleared it up overnight, I was amazed. Not necessarily suggesting you buy nappy cream but seconding a Weleda recommendation.

Frozengeranium · 17/12/2017 11:13

I've had some reasonable experiences with just sudocrem and Nivea (old fashioned blue pot) in terms of soothing.
I try and protect my face before I go out in this weather with a heavy duty protective cream. Currently using an spf50 brightening cream bought in Spain which is surprisingly effective against the cold.

This is fantastic,it’s in the lip balm section of boots but can be used anywhere. I swear by it. You only need a tiny but, warm it up between your fingers. It’s really soothing and protecting.

Any suggestions for something to soothe a face that is sore and reddened from the cold?

Thanks all.

Sisley's a bit out of my price range atm unfortunately.

Another vote for Weleda and I've just been on Caroline Hirons website and she rates the skin food too. Going to look into it.

retainer I'd seen that recommended for something else so I will check it out.

Nivea. The one in the blue tub. Old school, but very effective.

Yika · 17/12/2017 19:59

I find Nivea fantastic. I use Nivea soft (white) but it's not quite protective enough for me if temperatures drop below freezing.

Bioderma Atoderm is extremely rich and soothing and forms a protective film which stops the skin getting sore in the first place. I use it all winter. Not in the uk do not sure about availability there?

Also Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream works wonders as a topical treatment for sore or chapped skin.

BusterGonad · 17/12/2017 20:02

Astral is great for everyday use as it's in between Nivea blue and Nivea soft thickness. I alternate between Astral, Decleor hydra floral rich and the Iris night balm as well as many oils, but when my skin is sore and dry nothing feels as good as Astral!

MrsFoxPlus4 · 17/12/2017 20:04

Dermalogica barrier repair

tinkiiev · 17/12/2017 20:11

Definitely Nivea in the blue tin. Accept nothing else Grin also it only costs about tuppence.

digitallyremastered · 17/12/2017 20:27

Coconut oil. Apply thickly on the irritated skin. Cheap as chips.

Rainbowglow · 17/12/2017 20:59

Avene Cicalfate. Rich and soothing.

haba · 18/12/2017 00:08

We have the weleda cold weather cream for the children- never occurred to me to use it myself! I think I'm going to try, as my cheeks are suffering after all the cold last week. I use blue tub nivea too, but .y moisturiser is clarins, and that's the only one that keeps my.skin reasonable in winter. (Multi-active sensitive)

sammy891 · 18/12/2017 00:11

Aveeno Moisturising Cream, very soothing and moisturising!

Alwaysinmyheart · 18/12/2017 03:33

Body shop chamomile oil is good for taking make up off too and is v gentle.

Renfrewshire · 18/12/2017 10:23

Yika yes I have found the Bioderma on the Boots website and various places, thank you.

I love blue Nivea and use it to remove eye makeup but it just makes me a grease fest if I use it on the rest of my skin Grin

Thank you for so many great suggestions though.

Avene hydration treatment mask £11 in boots and is amazing . You can leave it on overnight or as a thick moisturizer

rubybleu · 18/12/2017 13:19

I pop a bit of Aquaphor over my moisturiser if I’m going to be in the wind/cold, and at night. It gives a bit more protection and stops the moisture evaporating off your skin and drying it out.

Alwaysinmyheart · 18/12/2017 15:25

Also Korean sheet masks are v good for a burst of hydration. If you don't have any Korean shops near you, you can get them on Amazon.

heron98 · 18/12/2017 15:33

This might sound weird but I use Vaseline.

I cycle to work and in the winter my cheeks and eye lids get these big sore patches of skin.

I put Vaseline on before bed and it works so much better than any kind of moisturiser.

deathb4decaf · 18/12/2017 15:36

I really like yu-be cream. It’s great- not sure if it would block pores though.
