Face mask for super dry skin

Hi everyone!

This time of year is an absolute bitch to my skin. I am getting through Aveeno like it's going out of fashion but I still have a really gross patch of dry skin under my left eye. I'm also struggling with make up as I'm needing to apply moisturiser every hour or so, and as luck would have it I have the worst premenstrual skin ever. I look like a 15 year old yet I'm not far off my 30th birthday!

Does anyone have any recommendations of really hydrating face masks I could try? Aveeno is the best moisturiser I've ever used (and I've tried the lot) but it's not cutting the mustard at the moment and my face looks horrible and it bloody hurts!

TIA

Hello, I am no skincare expert but I do get really dry skin in winter. What cleanser do you use? What works for me is to use an oil/balm cleanser, and then use hyaluronic acid morning and night (the Ordinary do one for £6) and then I use the Body Shop Aloe moisturiser over the top. As for a mask, I like the Claris Hydra Quench mask - the whole Hydra Quench range is lovely but £££!

Claris not Claris

bakewelltarte · 14/12/2017 13:53

Argh Clarins (stupid autocorrect!)

I usually use an Avenno cleanser but I admit I'm not in a "routine" as such with my facial skin care. Maybe that's one of my problems??

Your routine sounds great. I don't mind shelling out a lot for something if it's going to work. I used to have really greasy skin in my teens and so don't really know how to look after my face now I'm at the other extreme! Thanks for your reply Smile

I'm pregnant and my skin is so dry it looks reptilian! I'm slathering my skin in coconut oil atm, the solid one from Superdrug and it's really making a difference! Also using the micelliar oil from Garnier.

Zubrowka · 14/12/2017 14:48

Coconut oil sounds genius! I'm not expecting but I too feel like a lizard.

I have a really dry forehead too but the problem is, I also have a heavy blunt fringe, so applying anything too greasy to my forehead makes my fringe look like it's been dipped in a chip pan. I don't understand why we can't just hibernate like bears do!

Acids! Seriously. I used to have skin like you are describing - as soon as the cold hit I would have horrible dry patches that would often go scaly. Since I've started using acids, I have had amazing skin. I use Paula's Choice AHA every other night, her BHA in the morning, and on the other nights I tend to use either The Ordinary's Lactic Acid or the AHA/BHA face peel. I then use rosehip oil at night after, followed by good old fashioned Nivea night cream.

Clarinsblue orchid oil.
Origins intensive drink up mask.
Both brilliant.
If you want to spend a little more decleor aromessence neroli oil is a game changer.
I have dehydrated skin but have occasional dry patches and these products always sort me out.

Love Clinique moisture surge. You can get a full size pot and other smaller creams for £40. I also use the fosming facial wash with a flannel.

Cakescakescakes · 14/12/2017 16:46

The Clinique moisture surge range is excellent and includes a mask. Also you need an acid to get rid of the flaky skin as mentioned above. You could try the nip and Fab pads as an easy way in - the glycolic or salycilic dragons blood ones (I prefer the later as they are more hydrating and help regulate oiliness - I have a blunt fringe too!).

So I suggest cleanse, hydrating serum and moisturiser in the morning. At night cleanse, acid pad, serum and moisturiser. Avenue do nice hydrating serums although my favourite is Una Brennan Vit C one.

This moisture surge set is great value - the moisturiser is £34 alone so you get good sizes of the other products in the range for £6. And a chubby stick.

You're all ace thank you! I'm currently on my phone and typing isn't easy but wanted to say thanks - you've all given me hope of shedding my scales! Xmas Grin
