Can't get rid of dry skin on scar - help!

Hi everyone,

I had surgery many years ago to have my leg lengthened (NB. just the one, I've been flamed before for having cosmetic surgery Confused). It's left me with an 5cm long scar on my lower leg where they broke the bone, it's about 0.5cm wide.

The scar has been incredibly dry for the past few months. Nothing is working. I've tried avocado oil, bio oil, beeswax creams, weleda's dry skin rescue, and even putting my lip balm on it several times a day. It's peeling and so itchy. Has anyone got any other suggestions?

Rose mosqueta oil. Rosehip oil from Chile. Pure aloe vera also really good for scars. Child's farm body lotion from waitrose also really good.

I would use a combination of chemical peels, Melapads daily, and fractional RF

Canesten twice a day for 3 days. Then a mix of two tsp olive oil with 3 drips lavender, keep in a little jar or get some pure vitamin E oil.

If it is not better in a week, see the doctor.

I should have said I've tried Rosehip oil.

MrsPestilence, do you think I've got some sort of fungal issue? I hadn't considered that, ick!

apparently udder cream is amazing (yes cream farmers use on cows)

Do what PP said re infection - make sure it's not fungal or bacterial. Then if not do what @Eringray said to the letter.

MrsPestilence · 12/12/2017 21:44

marello what you have been doing seems sensible and should have improved the dry flaky skin, add in the itching and some sort of infection / fungal stuff is a good probability and needs ruling out / sorting.

Once infection is ruled out, try a cream with urea in it - foot creams like flexitol are highly moisturising.
