Another rosacea one

Thanks in advance for reading!

I finally saw a dermatologist privately regarding flushing and redness affecting my nose for almost 9 years. He diagnosed mild rosacea (flushing mainly on my nose- I get very red but typically didn’t go so red today, very sensitive cheeks). A little underwhelmed as they didn’t give much advice re skincare or suggested type of products and I had to keep asking what he suggested re sunscreens etc as I have really found it difficult to find moisturisers and sunscreens that don’t irritate me.

Anyhow, they’ve prescribed Mirvaso (private prescription... how much will it set me back?) and said I may need oral antibiotics if it doesn’t work and I’ve stopped breastfeeding.

My cheeks are very sensitive (even CeraVe stings now). LRP tolerable ultra used to be good but started stinging. Same for Superdrug Dry Skin cream and Astral. Clinique DDM Cream seems ok but maybe not quite enough on my cheeks in this weather. T zone is more normal/oily and I’ve recently had perioral dermatitis mainly on my chin- have almost finished the tube of Fucidin for that. From previous experience, topical antibiotics eventually work but I need to generally avoid all other products on the affected areas.

I also found that my trusted Bobbi Brown BB and CC creams irritate my cheeks. Foundation stick was fine.
Maybe I need to avoid all chemical sunscreen and I don’t know what in CeraVe caused the problem- maybe the parabens?

He eventually suggested SunSense sensitive sunscreen and Aveeno or even aqueous cream (I know many find aqueous cream controversial). But the aveeno lotion in the green tube isn’t moisturising enough in my face.

I’d love to hear what worked for other people in terms of skincare, sunscreen and makeup. Bare minerals used to sting even before I had this issue. I’ve heard the Mattè version may be better for this.

Anyhow, I appreciate if you’ve got this far and welcome any advice!

Blabbing please please just go and get Soolantra - you won't need to worry about any other products. I had rosacea for 20 odd years - so severe it affected my eyes, flushing, papules, the works. Within days of Soolantra, all improved incredibly. I no longer sorry about rosacea and it bloody brilliant - life changing. Run don't walk to your GP.

My eyes are bad today........I didn't link it to my rosacea......how would I recognise it????

BWatchWatcher · 15/01/2018 20:51

I agree, get the soolantra.
You can buy it online.

BWatchWatcher · 15/01/2018 20:53

Oh, by the way, I thought I had rosacea linked eye problems. In the end it appears I am allergic to Benefit eye products such as their mascara and eyebrow thingy. I got sore around the corners of my eyes and grew a few small lumps (nice).

yrhengi · 15/01/2018 20:55

But yes... Soolantra.

rubybleu · 15/01/2018 21:18

If anyone is interested - I have an unopened tube and one half used tube of Soolantra that I can’t use, bought in late November. It really upsets my skin (it gets very sore and thin) so I think I am allergic to something in the formulation.

LondonSouth28 · 15/01/2018 21:51

I can't wait to use the Solantra. Baby is still tiny and feeding a lot so I worry about transferring it to her. I have the products now -skinceuticals etc. Too early to really comment but so far so good

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 15/01/2018 22:58

I’ve looked up pharmacy2u and I might just do an online consultation. My insurer won’t cover any follow up with the private dermatologist (who didn’t suggest much anyway). So I’ll try to get them to give me Soolantra. The all I’ll need to sort out is spf.

I’ve started using the skinceuticals serum 10 and I do think it has helped with some background redness on my chin. I’m
Beginning to think my perioral dermatitis might actually be rosacea.

Can I ask all of you who have had success with Soolantra, are you continuing to use it longterm? It has made such a huge difference to my skin, after years of suffering, and am scared to stop using it! But I don't know if its safe or if I need to keep using it. Thanks.

BluebellTheDonkey · 16/01/2018 17:52

OP your GP can prescribe Soloantra.

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 16/01/2018 17:57

Soolantra is on its way. I also got some azelaic acid. I hope that’ll help with getting pores.

However, I’m assuming my skin will get a bit dry so any moisturiser and non drying sunscreen suggestions would be appreciated!

Also, I have slight pinkness in my cheeks by mainly it is my nose that is prone to flushing and redness, some perioral dermatitis or rosacea on my chin. Do I apply Soolantra and azelaic to all the differently affected areas? Will either/both help my nose and cheeks or should I just apply a moisturiser to my cheeks?

I went on pharmacy2u by if it works I could get further tubes from my GP if they’re willing to prescribe.

I would just try Soolantra alone to start with, just apply a small amount to the affected areas. It has a moisturiser as its base so I don't apply anything else at night. In the morning I use Cetaphil daily facial moisturiser underneath my foundation.

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 16/01/2018 18:53

Thanks! Is the Cetaphil the spf 15 one?

Yes it is. Its quite hard to get, I think they must have stopped making it over here, but its the only thing that doesn't irritate my face so I just have to pay more. It lasts quite a while.
