Stupid question alert - leave in conditioner

Do I shampoo and condition in shower, then apply leave in conditioner after, once hair is damp?

Or do I shampoo only in the shower and just apply leave in conditioner once out?

Never used it before but hair has recently got really knotty and a bit dry so am trying some tonight.

Shampoo and condition as normal and then spray leave-in conditioner on the mid lengths and ends of towel dried hair, avoiding the roots.

If you use any styling products or oils, use them as normal after the leave-in conditioner but be aware of overloading the hair and leaving it sticky and heavy.

THANK YOU!

Will give it a go tonight Smile

I've actually started doing the opposite - just shampooing in the shower then doing leave in conditioner once I get out. I have quite greasy hair and find this helps it stay clean for longer as i can be really precise with just putting conditioner on the ends.

Thanks FarAway. I'm going to try it both ways and see what works best.

I would remove the normal conditioner from the process if I was doing it. Have never had a lot of luck with leave-in stuff, but maybe I'm too heavy handed with it!

MurmmersShow · 11/12/2017 19:06

What type of hair do. You have?

purplemunkey · 11/12/2017 19:07

I've done both tonight. I leave my hair to dry naturally so I'll see how it is in the morning. If it's too heavy I'll leave out the normal conditioner and see how that goes instead.

Shampoo then towel dry, then a tiny bit of leave in conditioner on the ends.

Roots should never really need conditioning as its 'new' hair. The hair on the ends is usually months or in some cases years old.

purplemunkey · 11/12/2017 19:34

Hmm. I may have gone overboard on the conditioner then!

My hair is the longest it's ever been at the moment, so I suppose the lengths are probably pretty old which might be why I might suddenly getting tangles and dryness. It had a trim not too long ago so it's not in too bad condition over all. I'm enjoying having it long so I'm trying to find ways to keep it a bit softer.

Sorry Murmmers, I missed your post.

I have quite fine hair, but a lot of it if that makes sense. It's got a natural wave to it, so can get a bit of a frizz halo. It's currently about armpit length. Coloured, with a block colour home job every three months (no bleach, just dying the greys back brown).
