Do most moisturisers make your eyes itch?

My mum is having difficulty finding a moisturiser that doesn't make her eyes itch so was wondering if anyone with sensitive eyes had found something that worked for them?

I've only experienced this with Astral (which I bought after reading rave reviews on here) so know how horrible it feels.

I don't put it near my eyes.. la Roche posey soothing moisturiser is good for sensitive skin

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 09/12/2017 22:32

I don't put moisturiser on the eye area.

When you say her eyes itch, do you mean eyelashes and skin under the eyes, or the actual eyes?

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 09/12/2017 22:33

God I meant eyelids!

I've found this with some creams, I think it's the perfume or the fact they're too heavy for the eye area. Could she try an eye cream instead and avoid moisturiser around her eyes? I'm very sensitive and I'm currently using Superdrug's own sensitive day and night serums (only about 2.99) and they're very good with no eye reaction when I put them all over my face

Does she have sensitive skin? If so dermalogica barrier repair is fab. Hard to recommend anything when I don’t know her skin type. Best using an eye cream for the eye area.

ShizzleYoDrizzle · 09/12/2017 22:41

She says she avoids putting the moisturiser near her eyes but her eyeballs end up feeling itchy anyway. That's what I found with Astral too, even if I completely avoided the eyes it still made them itch like crazy.

I will have a look at LRP, they're a dependable brand. And I used to love Dermalogica's stuff esp, the Skin Smoothing Cream (I think that's what it was called) so that's a good shout. Their stuff is nice and bland.

If she's got really dry and sensitive skin I'm currently having success with aveeno. I've tried all sorts. I need to put it around my eyes as I have eczema there.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 09/12/2017 22:58

Your right OP dermalogica do have one called skin smooth cream. I love all their products but barrier repair is my favourite

I try to keep moisturiser away from my eyes as I have sensitive skin and ocular rosacea. I can’t use eye cream (or eye make up) at all - both make my eyes stream rather than itch though.

Get something fragrance free, Simple, Boots, La Roche Posay etc

ManInTheMoonMarigold · 10/12/2017 02:44

I get itchy, watery eyes with most moisturisers and some give me a headache too. It's a mild allergy to one of the ingredients. I can treat it with antihistemines, but usually only do this when I need to wear sunscreen, which has the same ingredient.

I find that I can use most serums, so just use a serum instead.

EnidButton · 10/12/2017 10:31

Could it be your Mum's cleanser rather than the moisturiser? I've had irritated eyes from some cleansers as you use those over the eye area.

Sounds like she's allergic to a particular ingredient in something anyway. La Roche Posay and Avene do ranges for sensitive skin and eyes. They aren't perfumes either.

EnidButton · 10/12/2017 10:31

*perfumed

Cakescakescakes · 10/12/2017 10:34

LRP Toleriane range is especially for very sensitive skin and is fragrance free and very non irritating etc. I use it when my eczema flares up around my eyes. 25% off it on Look Fantastic at the minute.

Fade Out. Good for me...the eye cream in a tube.

Astral makes my whole face sting and itch. I had a big tub of it, so used it up on my feet.
