What can I do about my eyes

Doseydots · 08/12/2017 18:50

Is there anything I can do about my lids. My eyes are just about closed most of the time. If I have a drink or tired, they look even worse.

Sadly there's probably little you can do other than have cosmetic surgery. No amount of cream in the world will reduce the amount of skin or tighten it up back to how it was in your teens!

But I honestly wouldn't have looked at the photo and had any idea what it was you were talking about/what you disliked if you hadn't posted what you did as well. You have perfectly normal lovely eyelids and beautiful coloured eyes. The right makeup might help you feel differently, have you had a makeover at a counter before to experiment with shades?

MikeUniformMike · 08/12/2017 19:04

If you hadn't mentioned it, I would not have noticed it. Your eyes look fine to me, nice colour and pretty lashes.

StealingYourWiFi · 08/12/2017 19:04

Blepharoplasty will massively improve the look but it's cosmetic surgery. You have quite a lot of loose skin there. It can be performed under a general or local anaesthetic and the outcome always looks brilliant. I'm happy to recommend a surgeon in the south east UK.

Doseydots · 08/12/2017 19:06

Thank you lemon. You are kind. I haven’t no but I am thinking about getting my colours done in the new year.

Do you have any tips?

Stealing I have never even heard of that. Is it expensive? would rather not have cosmetic surgery.

It depends on who you see and whether you have general/local anaesthetic. I do think it's a great surgery and something I'd consider myself in the future. There's lots of before and after photos on Google images.

I have 'hooded' eyelids too, there's some makeup tutorials out there for making your eyes appear a little wider. This can help massively x

LemonShark · 08/12/2017 19:14

Hmm I'm not sure tbh, I would search YouTube for 'makeup tutorial for hooded eyes' and see what comes up! People often suggest more neutral/light slightly shimmery shades (not frosted), I think a dark smudgey kohl on your lower waterline/lashline would be a nice balance too. I'm not sure what having colours done involves but you can visit a few makeup counters and ask them to show you how to maximise your eyes with makeup and then say you want to walk around outside in natural light for a bit to see how it looks and avoid the pressure to buy (buy something if you like of course but don't feel pushed to spend £££ just because you've had some eyeshadow and eyeliner put on, pressure selling is just part of their job). Tell them before they start that you'll be doing that so you know where you stand.

I've always noticed the women working at the benefit counters in boots are utterly lovely and so friendly. Go to John Lewis or house of Fraser with a friend, have a wander round the counters and chat and see which sales assistant you get a good friendly interested vibe from and then go for it!

Haven't watched these but they should offer up similar videos too :)

If you decide to buy something (like an eyeliner for example or eyeshadow) post here asking for recommendations. You don't have to spend a fortune on makeup, you can get fantastic quality items cheap as chips if you know what to go for and if you're experimenting with new looks it's nicer sometimes to have options from a few products than spend loads on one thing!

Nancy91 · 08/12/2017 19:20

Surgery is the only option that will have a big impact, but obviously it's pricey and you may not want it done. I have mildly hooded eyes and the makeup tricks don't really work so I just do my makeup however I want now and I've accepted my eyes as part of my face.

thenightsky · 08/12/2017 19:37

Your eyes look like mine. I've been drinking loads of water and avoid alcohol. I'm sure its improved them, but it could be psychological. The alcohol avoidance will fall to bits due to Christmas anyway Sad

Doseydots · 08/12/2017 19:59

Maybe I shall try the cutting the alcohol down in the new year nightsky

It just seems to have happened in the last couple of weeks. I can really notice it on photos. I guess we have flaws that we seek out on photos that other people hardly notice.

I didn’t even know there was a cosmetic procedure to rectify the problem. I am going to look up some facial exercises on YouTube and try increasing my water intake.

I wonder if a cool eye mask will help.

Eyelid tape. I posted recently about it.

RockinHippy · 08/12/2017 22:20

A top tip from an old friend of mine, who was a very successful make up artist a the time.

Haemorrhoid cream for loose skin & eye bags. I would recommend it for every day, but it works a treat for a special night out

JanetStWalker · 09/12/2017 06:52

If the drooping is affecting your amount of vision perhaps the NHS would offer surgery?

lovemylover · 09/12/2017 10:23

Cosmetic surgery is the only thing that will help unfortunately, but upper eyelids are not painful and its a quick op, even under local its not painful and will make you feel loads better,
I had it done quite a long time ago,,but made a big difference to my confidence,
Also if done under local will be cheaper
As someone else said if it is affecting your vision, you might be able get it done on the NHS
Ask your Dr

IdaDown · 09/12/2017 10:26

My uncle had his upper lids done on the nhs. They were affecting his vision.

ToothTrauma · 09/12/2017 10:26

My mum had this corrected on the NHS as her lids were actually dropping below the lashes and obscuring her vision. I took her. It was very quick. She had some cracking bruising but it went down quickly. Made a massive difference and she doesn’t look like she’s had surgery at all.

I’ve got hooded lids too and I will have the surgery when mine get bad.

Wellhellothere1 · 09/12/2017 10:56

I'm going for an upper lid blepharoplasty on 19th Jan and it's costing £1000. I've taken out an interest free BMI card and paying £100 a month for 10 months to pay for it. It's done under local anaesthetic and I've taken two weeks off work afterwards to fully recover though I think after a week I'll be okay. I'm getting it done as I think it will only get worse over the years!

Oblomov17 · 09/12/2017 11:10

I have very hooded eyes. Horrible. Sad

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 09/12/2017 11:39

Wellhellothere1, a friend had this done in Poland about three months ago, she looks amazing, wide awake and happy. I hope you get the same result.

Wellhellothere1 · 09/12/2017 12:20

I'm hoping so too Silently I'm a bit scared but know the surgeon in a professional capacity and work with a few women she has done this surgery on and it looks brilliant.

lovemylover · 09/12/2017 14:46

wellhellothere can I ask where you are having it done? my daughter had hers done last year.but one eyelid is drooping a bit,she is going back in the new year to have it redone,
I think shes with the Hospital Group
I would like a neck lift. but its really expensive, more than I can afford

Wellhellothere1 · 09/12/2017 14:51

love I'm in Scotland and getting it done at BMI Carrick Glen in Ayr.

Fosterdog123 · 09/12/2017 16:01

£1k? Really? That's so cheap. I've been quoted more like £3k.
