Do you buy Christmas jumpers?

I tend not to bother because they seem like a waste of money but this year my children have got Christmas jumper day at school.

My 2 have them because they like them, only Primark cheapies though. When they've outgrown them I sell them on. You wouldn't get me in one though!

CointreauVersial · 08/12/2017 13:15

Well, I have A Christmas jumper - don't need more than one, really!

You can pick them up very cheaply in certain shops. Our local charity shop had a whole rail of them.

Alternatively, buy a length of tinsel and some safety pins and get creative on a jumper they already own. No need to waste money.

WhooooAmI24601 · 08/12/2017 13:21

I work in a Reception class so have a few to wear throughout December. I don't buy new ones each year, though, I just re-use the same ones (I did add a blouse with teeny tiny Santa's to the mix this year though).

The DCs have always done Jumper Day at school so have new ones when they need them, and the old ones get passed on to friends DCs.

NewtsSuitcase · 08/12/2017 13:23

There have been a few threads about the wastfulness of this recently. MDS2 is going to have a bit of tinsel tacked down his arms, it will then come off and go onto the tree. The throw away culture in our society is really sad.

lottieandmia22 · 08/12/2017 13:26

I agree.

I have a nice woollen fairisle jumper that looks christmassy so I wear that. DC has a fleece that will do, not santas, but snowflakes and festive colours. Amusingly DH (normally the least "Christmassy" of the lot of us) had to buy a lovely acrylic Christmas jumper for a show he was in.

PNGirl · 08/12/2017 13:44

No - I have a black and white fairlisle Celtic & Co one that does for Christmas jumper type occasions. I probably would get one but this year all the nicer ones sold out weeks ago leaving light-up reindeer and slogans about prosecco. Ugh.

LemonysSnicket · 08/12/2017 13:55

we cant afford much this xmas so no, but next xmas definitely !

Opheliasgoldenwine · 08/12/2017 14:14

Nope but I've got this beauty for Christmas Eve (MIL is wearing one too Grin).

Do you buy Christmas jumpers?
HildaZelda · 08/12/2017 15:02

I bought one in Primark about 3 years ago for around a tenner. It's still going strong. It only gets worn for a day or two at Xmas so I'm not going to bother with another one.

TefalTester123 · 08/12/2017 15:26

I wouldn't but
a) Charity shops seem to have quite a few
b) In Morrisons this week I saw a 'make a Christmas Jumper kit'. 3 pounds and had about 24 larhe stickers in it, enought to tart up a few jumpers.

TefalTester123 · 08/12/2017 15:27

** Large Stickers that should read, and they were on those things they hang of the side of the shelves.

A1Sharon · 08/12/2017 17:03

I bought one for my teen DS last year, and it still fits so he will wear it again for this years 'Xmas jumper day' at school.
I bought one for myself this year too for the first time. It is the softest thing ever, and a good longer length, which I need as tall. I actually can't wait to wear it, and am wearing it tonight with skinnies and heels!🎄
Why would it be wasteful? You don't need to get a new one every year?Confused

mrslebon · 08/12/2017 17:18

I don't buy Christmas jumpers but I have a couple that have stars on that pass as being vaguely festive. Tesco have one but it must be sold out online now.

metalmum15 · 08/12/2017 17:51

I don't understand the throwaway comment, surely it's no different to any other item of clothing that's going to get grown out of? My dc wear theirs all winter, not just one day, and then they get sold on or given to charity so someone else can get the benefit. In fact, they get more wear out of them than something like wellies, which I have to buy every year, and then we don't have the weather for them to wear them. (Although they may be able to make an appearance this weekend 😆)

NC4now · 08/12/2017 17:55

I’ve had to buy one for me this year. I’m new at work and they all go to town on Christmas jumper day etc. I’ll look like a right party pooper if I don’t get one, and that I am not.
Not very flattering though, are they?

Hollyhobgoblin · 08/12/2017 17:57

I get too hot in a jumper. So it's a no.

elQuintoConyo · 08/12/2017 18:01

Nope. Neither does DS. Of he had too, i'd just stick him in his Minions/Darth Vader jumper and sew on (tack) a red felt hat with white felt trim.

Fuck buying an extra (usually minging) jumper on top of everything else this time of year. Even bought from sweatshop city Primark.

Thingvellir · 08/12/2017 18:05

We all have them - they don't have to be tasteless, there are nice ones out there (in my opinion at least)

I buy a size up for the DC and they last 2 years. The one DS is wearing again this year is 3 years old. We tend to have about 5-6 Xmas jumper occasions in the run up to the actual Xmas day wearing so I don't think it's particularly wasteful.

Eringray · 08/12/2017 18:24

Totally agree!! Christmas Jumpers are nothing but a waste of money.

Redsippycup · 08/12/2017 18:26

I have 4. And 2 t-shirts. I wear them to work every day in December. Lots of my colleagues do the same.

Loonoonow · 08/12/2017 19:56

I have one jumper, one sequinned Christmas t shirt and one jersey dress with a Christmassy pattern. They are all about 4/5 years old and get trotted out throughout December for parties/charity events and Christmas Day. No more wasteful than any other clothes.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 08/12/2017 20:00

I'm wearing one right now, it's navy blue with fair isle reindeers on it.

I also have one which is is vaguely festive but not outright Christmas, it's about 4 yrs old and I love it because it's long and cosy.

I tend to wear my clothes until they wear out, so I don't see Christmas jumpers as any more wasteful than any other jumper.

CakesRUs · 08/12/2017 20:05

I buy them for myself Grin and wear them.

Crumbs1 · 08/12/2017 20:11

Lasted a long time without one. One of the boys has a fairisle ski jumper but not sure any of the rest have one.
