Can you find me a wedding outfit! I'm the bride!!

DP and I are getting married - don't get too excited - its is purely for DS's security and various other unromantic reasons previously discussed on MN - and I need something to wear. I don't want to spend a huge amount because as I say this is a very functional affair, but I do want to look nice. Its in May so I was thinking of a summery dress of some sort. I'm size 12, aged 37, and becasue of my dodgy back really can't wear things with a concealed side zip. I like 'Great Plains' style, happy with pattern or plain.

So Trinny & Susannah if you're out there, can you help!?!

Monsoon have some luverly things (look under Casual Dresses for the cheaper ones), also look at Laura Ashley.

chocolateshoes · 19/04/2007 20:47

Thanks Cod!

What do you want to know about legs?? - Knee legth is good. Prefer not too long. Knees look too old for too short.

Colours - tend to go for greens, browns, reds - I have brown hair with blond highlights, brown eyes, tanned skin.

I want something I can wear again and that will cope with me bending up & down and lugging Ds about.

If you're up for browns I love this dress but need someone else to buy it so I can enjoy it vicariously as I'll be too pg to fit it this summer...

plibble · 19/04/2007 20:56

This one is stunning with tanned skin. You can wear it again when you are a guest at other people's weddings/parties etc.

MrsBadger · 19/04/2007 20:56

nice red one

chocolateshoes · 19/04/2007 20:57

Thanks Mrs B! And we actually have a Next near here so I could try it on. I like it alot, thanks.

ooh, was just about to post that one plibble
fabulous colour

chocolateshoes · 19/04/2007 20:58

Oh yes Plibble that's lovely - just think I might look a bit fat in that..

OP posts:
chocolateshoes · 19/04/2007 20:59

Need to try it on. May need to take DS shopping tomorrow!

OP posts:
plibble · 19/04/2007 21:10

Repeat after me "size 12 is not fat".

MrsBadger · 19/04/2007 21:14

... but I can quite see how something with a waist can be more flattering than an empire line to some shapes whatever your size.

chocolateshoes · 19/04/2007 21:16

exactly...and although we're not having proper photos I'm sure there'll b a few snaps and I need to look ok!

plibble · 19/04/2007 21:31

Can you wear yellow? this one looks a flattering shape, I think.

chocolateshoes · 20/04/2007 19:12

I'm not sure if I can wear yellow or not! I'm inclined to say not but its a lovely dress so wouldn't mind getting myself to a Debenhams to try it.

collision · 20/04/2007 19:16

Oh the orange one was lovely and the patterned Next one is fab.

Not sure about the red one...looks like a school pick up dress and the yellow one is a bit icky IMHO.

Principles have some lovely things atm.

Aefondkiss · 20/04/2007 19:26

if you go to debenhams maybe you could try the personal shopper and get some help with tryin a few on ?

chocolateshoes · 20/04/2007 19:29

A personal shopper is a good idea - have never done that. Think I need to organise with DP to look after DS for the day so I can get to some proper shops!

FoghornLeghorn · 20/04/2007 20:55

I saw the yellow one today in Debenhams - it looks much better on the hanger than in the pic, pic does not do it justice at all. It's that Taylor woman in Debenhams, can't think what her first name is though.

Absolutely love the Orangey colour one - we have a wedding in June, may try it on for myself !

Pannacotta · 21/04/2007 09:06

Def try Monsoon they have so many lovely dresses in lots of colours and shapes. Would you consider their bridal dresses, some are quite simple?
I got married in a Monsoon dress, empire line, cream silk/linen mix with bit of embroidery detail at the front. Quite a simple style but felt lovely in it and it could be worn again with colourful cardi/shrug etc.
HTH and good luck with it all...

Swizzler · 21/04/2007 09:17

I have the red Monsoon one (and am brunette and size 12). Much nicer than it looks on the site and a v flattering shape

UmSami · 21/04/2007 10:08

I found monsoon staff, the most helpful by far... I'm a post baby size 16 (I say post baby but he is 13 months lol just still cant except i'm not a size 10 anymore...but thats a whole other thread) ANYWAY...needed a pretty frock for a special event, and no longer know how to dress...monsoon were great, v patient, lots of good ideas and i found a dress I loved after trying EVERYWHERE. I'd even tried a personal shopper who wasn't that great (none of the stores listed so far so hope any experience you have is better) but the floor staff in my local (and busy) monsoon were BRILLIANT. and they have loads of shrugs cardies too which are great for evening...Good luck...and have fun.

Pannacotta · 21/04/2007 11:02

Agree with UmSami, also think the Monsoon staff are v helpful (not pushy so ask for help but they gladly give it and know the stock).
