Can we have a new Philips Lumea/IPL thread?

Thinking of getting one of these as a Christmas present to myself. The threads about them on MN are quite old now. Which one is best to buy now? And will it work on me? I'm very pale but with dark body hair.

There was a tread a while back saying if they weren’t changed once a month they broke. I couldn’t done any reference to that in the instructions to mine though.

Titsywoo · 02/12/2017 23:50

I think it's every 3 months it needs to be charged. I certainly don't charge mine every month and it's fine.

It's absolutely brilliant and definitely woŕt the money. I did my legs twice over summer (you're supposed to do it every fortnight for a total of 4 times then do it probably once every 4-6 weeks to stay hair free). I only did the two times though and my leg hair took months to throw back. I'm going to start again this week and do the 4 sessions properly!

Titsywoo · 02/12/2017 23:50

It's definitely in the instructions wonderstuff

nadinexo1 · 02/12/2017 23:55

I love my tria laser, no underarm hair left after 6 sessions but still using on legs as it doesn't seem to be working as fast.
Haven't uses any IPL though so can't compare

marmiteloversunite · 03/12/2017 00:09

Has anyone got the Smoothskin ipl machine? I like the look of it because it has continual flashes as you move the machine over your skin. Not sure who it is made by.

Berthatydfil · 03/12/2017 00:15

This is the Lidl one - it’s in special next week. It’s great value and I’ve git a similar one and I have used it on legs, bikini arm pit chin and lips and it works really well.

Can we have a new Philips Lumea/IPL thread?

Ooh I’m tempted. I’m pale with dark hair and Christ I’m astounded by how quickly my bloody bikini line grows back, it’s like I’ve got bloody miracle grow in my knickers Grin
Eplialting never made my legs feel smooth enough so just went back to shaving and waxing, well I end up with it all over me and pulled all the gel off my fingers at the same time

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 03/12/2017 00:48

I have the SmoothSkin Gold and its been brilliant. Did my armpits maybe 6/7 times over the course of a couple of months and no longer have any pit hair. Ever! Its amazing. And it was only about £150 I think when I bought it.

I've done my face (had it done professionally a few years ago but had a few stragglers that would creep up on me without me noticing! ) They're all gone now too.

In the process of doing my legs, which takes about 10 minutes each time so if you're in the habit of hair removal its not a big deal. I'm a lazy shaver so only did them when I wore a skirt anyway, so having to remember to do it regularly is a pain, but once they're done I will be so relieved to never have to think about it again!

Poor DD is suffering with facial hair but as she's only 11 I don't want to use it on her yet. I've gone down the "it's perfectly natural, we all have it, we don't have to conform to beauty standards" route for now, but I'm being a hypocrite! Having a moustache made my childhood miserable and I wish I could help her, but don't want to risk damaging her skin.

IPL is life changing. You won't regret it.

NotMyMonkees · 03/12/2017 07:04

Got mine a couple of months ago, it hasn't been an overnight success but I would say my legs are now 90% hair free and it's a fortnight since I last used it. I never shave in between as it's that time of year. However I do seem to have some stubborn strips of hair, which I'm wondering whether they're patches I've missed? How does anyone make sure they've covered every patch of their legs? I do up and down from ankle to knee but of course bits are wider than others so probably not getting it all. Should I hope round in rings? What does anyone else do?

rachelracket · 03/12/2017 09:50

hi @SuzanneSays just FYI i was over the moon at the results from my lumea. was convinced i was 'cured'. turns out my body hair just flat out stopped growing whilst I was pregnant. now 7 months pp I'm less hairy than pre lumea but definitely hairer than during pregnancy. and i've got no time to shave so it's a shit state watch out baby paddlers Grin

Uokbing · 03/12/2017 10:22

The downside of it is that you get totally out of the habit of shaving!

BumNugget · 03/12/2017 10:25

I had one and used it religiously for about 8 months and it just didn't seem to work for me! I was still having to shave/wax before using it so I returned it to amazon in the end for a refund. I'm pale with dark hair and used it on the highest setting. Am I the only one it didn't work for?!

usernamealreadytaken · 03/12/2017 10:32

I started by having two professional courses on my legs, then bought the Me My Elos a few years ago. Life changing. I've always had copious dark hair and now I have about half a dozen hairs under my arms, my leg hair (whilst not all entirely gone) is soft and fine and barely there, my face is tons better (hardly any tache), my bikini line is under control, hardly any belly hair and my confidence is so much better. I think it cost about £300 but worth every single penny - saved a fortune vs the professional treatments and can use whenever I have the time. It does take perseverance, but the results I've had are amazing. Can't recommend it enough.

Flowershower · 03/12/2017 10:35

I got one a couple of years ago and it's brilliant. I am pale with dark hair so good candidate. Bikini line has hardly any hair regrowth now, underarms the same. Could never be bothered to do my legs tho!
Def worth the money

mammmamia · 04/12/2017 08:19

How does it actually work? Sorry for my ignorance. Is it UV light and does it carry health risks?

badbadhusky · 04/12/2017 08:22

My only tip is to purchase this before your lady whiskers go grey, as it doesn’t work on them and you will still be plucking.

Lottapianos · 04/12/2017 08:24

I bought mine in September, it was about £200 from Amazon. I have been using every 2 weeks on legs, bikini line and underarms. I had been waxing legs and bikini for about 10 years so fairly light hair regrowth but definitely still noticeable and I used to get waxed every 5 weeks or so.

I have some definite bald patches here and there but still quite a bit of hair around. Maybe I need to increase to using it weekly?

QueenOfAllISurvey · 04/12/2017 08:37

Do it do it do it!!

My Lumea is the best thing ever.

I was SO paranoid about my facial hair before but now it's all gone.

Can't remember the model but I paid about £270 I think. Couldn't see what the extra benefit was with the ones that cost £500+

Scabbersley · 04/12/2017 12:28

Watching with interest. I need one for my chin hair. Legs would be next.

The Lidl one is tempting but I cannot believe it will work!!

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 07/12/2017 15:45

Uokbing "The downside of it is that you get totally out of the habit of shaving!" Yes! I was convinced I had no armpit hair so gave up even looking, only to find I had two or three hairs about an inch long Grin

SavoyCabbage · 08/12/2017 07:01

@katymac I got the BRI956 which is the most expensive one. There is a skin colour chart on the Phillips website. You point it at your skin and it works out the right settings.

katymac · 11/12/2017 18:19

Thanks Savoycabbage - I think it'll have to wait until DD gets a real job Sad
