skin cream for flaky, cracked skin on hands

What skin creams do you all use? I've tried E45 and Aveeno but it's like my skin is on fire when I use it. I can't wear any gloves or put my hands in my pockets because it's so sore.

Any recommendations please? I religiously avoid scratching it but despite that my skin keeps cracking and bleeding - it's not a good look.

The neutrogena one stung my hands terribly!

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/12/2017 06:37

Another vote for neutrogena
mintmum was it unscented?there is both unscented and scented.my ski s rubbish and scented one is paindul to me
Glycerin hand creams work if budget is very tight
Soft by nivea (poundshop sells that) is sworn by a friend if mine

Definitely Diprobase Ointment Emollient. You will need cotton gloves over though until it sinks in. Only thing that helps mine.

See your GP. I had this and tried every cream on the market. Turned out to be dermatitis. GP prescribed an antimicrobial lotion, a Vaseline type cream and a steroid. Sorted out in a week.

Still yes it was unscented, plus I find the neutrogena one hard to spread and rub in, you need loads of it to actually do anything. Sorry I'm just not a fan but I know lots of people love it.

I've had this and it's horrible. Initially I used some hydrocortisone cream to sort the extreme irritation. Then something like Aveeno - nothing fragranced. The Neutrogena handcream makes my skin sting like anything when my hands start to get cracked. I also really rate Moogoo creams - the MSM soothing cream is lovely,/

You really need to use rubber gloves while washing up until your skin heals. Can you try unlined ones e.g. www.ocado.com/webshop/product/Spontex-Silky-Gloves-Medium/255495011?from=search&tags=%7C20000&param=rubber+gloves&parentContainer=SEARCHrubber+gloves

And always wear gloves when out in cold weather.

Also switch to a v gentle washing up liquid e.g. Ecover and use only vegetable soap to wash you hands (no liquid wash with sodium laureth sulphate)

Vaseline is the best thing ever. Use it at night and wear white cotton gloves with it! Seriously Vaseline rules.

RoseWhiteTips · 04/12/2017 12:14

Avoid liquid soaps like the plague.

DH uses Cetraben (which is SLS [Sodium Lauryl Sulfate] and Paraben free) for his hands which is a good moisturiser - he gets it over the counter at a chemist. A supermarket pharmacy can get it in for you within a day or two if they don't stock it.

He also gets latex-free gloves from Boots, Tesco etc.

I found something that works - I've used it twice and it's almost got rid of my cracks at the ends and edges of my fingers.

It's called Working Hands and is marketed at men in trades, so you get it in B&Q/Toolstation/Screwfix. It's about £5, you only need a tiny bit. I put barrier cream over the top of it so that may have helped.

This (but was cheaper at Toolstation): www.amazon.co.uk/OKeefees-Working-Hands-Hand-Cream/dp/B00121UVU0/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=working+hands&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1512397332&sr=8-1

Totally works!

They sell that working hands in boots
