I always have dry lips. In the winter they are awful. I'm applying balm every few minutes and after drinking etc. I cover my lips with it at bedtime. They aren't cracked, but they are dry and I do have a habit of pulling off the hard, dry skin, which clearly doesn't help healing.

I've used Carmex (stick and pots), Nivea, Lypsil, and always wear lipstick , a non drying sort. I've tried experimenting to see if it's the lipsticks (currently using Bobbi Brown Luxe one or their Nourishing one) and makes no difference at all, even using lip balm under them.

I have the same problem OP, and tried everything to no avail - until 3 years ago when I discovered that the Paw Paw cream I use occasionally actually works brilliantly as a lip balm.

You can buy lip tubes of it from Amazon, I rarely have dry lips as long as I use it three times a day, or whenever they feel like they're getting dry. I have about 5 tubes all over the house, miracle stuff.

Same here. Years and years of battling with it. Also a picker Blush

Drives me nuts when people say it’s because I use lip balm. Some people have oily hair, some people have weak nails, some people have dry lips

The only one that works for me is the plain yellow burts bees. I have about 10 on the go at all times, in every coat, bag drawer etc.

marmitecheesetoast · 30/11/2017 19:10

I used to have this problem too, my lips have been sooo much better since I weaned myself off Carmex (which I was having to apply a ridiculous amount of times a day) and started using Elizabeth Arden 8 hour lip cream instead. It is expensive but does the trick and lasts ages. I only apply maybe twice a day now compared to 20+ applications of Carmex a day - I think there is something in it about using Carmex making you need to use it more and more!

CotswoldStrife · 30/11/2017 19:12

Stop picking, for a start - I know the crusty bits of skin are irritating but it's never getting a chance to heal if you keep pulling bits of it off.

Vaseline Lip Therapy (the small tin, not the big jar of plain vaseline), Burts Bees, Carmex or the Blisteze-whatever-it's-called-nowadays.

The other thing that works well for me is Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. It has a distinctive 'fragrance' that is not for everyone, though Grin

This is going to sound weird but does make sense, nipple cream is amazing! I had chapped lips and used it while breast feeding dd 6 years ago and it was a game changer. Dd1 has very dry lips too and I use it on her. You could put it in a pot rather than have the tube on display though.

43percentburnt · 30/11/2017 19:28

I agree lanisoh nipple lanolin. It’s amazing put on before bed and lovely unchapped lips the next day.

Amazing and the tube lasts ages.

ginandnappies · 30/11/2017 19:28

Vaseline is the best I've ever tried. I find anything else actually dries out my lips more.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 30/11/2017 20:29

If your not allergic, lanolin lip based ones like Lanolips are the best. And I have tried every single brand on the market. They seem to properly moisturise rather than just act as a barrier to moisture loss like Vaseline based ones.

Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream (not the lip balm version, the actual cream. Though it's more of a waxy gel). It's worth every penny and last forever.

Jerseysilkvelour · 30/11/2017 20:39

Jack black intense therapy lip balm, hands down the best one ever. You can get it online at Boots (order to your local store for free)

stoplickingthetelly · 30/11/2017 20:43

Lanisol nipped cream is great on lips. Discovered by accident, but it is good.

IslingtonLou · 30/11/2017 20:59

I HATE the lush ones. I have Key Lime Pie and it’s literally a thin film that sits on top of your lips - doesn’t hydrate or sink in. Pretty bad don’t waste your money! Their lip scrubs are okay though (I recommend Bubblegum as it has a better formula than the others that I own)

I love good old Cherry Carmex (in the pot). I get lip fillers so my lips tend to be constantly dryer now, but Carmex sorts me out perfectly

Another vote for Lasinoh.

Over the last few years I’ve developed sensitivities to all kinds of lip balms - especially ones with SPF.

Left over Lasinoh was my saviour.
I tried Lanolips under the impression it’s the same stuff and so I didn’t have to pull out a tube of Lasinoh (a beacon to most mothers, I can see their eyes take it in Grin) but it didn’t compare.

OCSockOrphanage · 30/11/2017 21:12

Clinique All about Lips in the pump version is good and so is the only Korean lip product I have tried, LaNeige lip sleeping masque. Elemis Mint Moisture is the best stick IMO I bought 10 from Ebay Blush and have one in every coat pocket.

FannyBurney · 30/11/2017 21:12

Lansinoh is the best. Hard to get out of the tube when it’s cold though. I squeeze some into a tiny little sample pot for my handbag. I also melt it in the microwave with lipstick to make perfect lipgloss in little pots.

katieferg81 · 30/11/2017 21:12

Another vote for Elizabeth Arden 8 hour beauty balm it's fabulous for lips amongst other things and lasts ages.

dameglittersparkles · 30/11/2017 21:13

Lanolips every time and they're buy one get one free in Boots right now I think 😁

LakeFlyPie · 30/11/2017 21:32

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream is amazing, cures chapped lips with one overnight application.
I also love the stick version, have one in every bag and it's great if you want to avoid the stickiness of the cream (which is actually more of an ointment)

HermioneWeasley · 30/11/2017 21:38

8 hour cream cures chapped lips overnight. I once split my lip in an accident and i swear it healed that overnight as well.

Squeee · 07/12/2017 01:40

Another vote for aquaphor--My tattoo artist in florida suggested we use it on tattoos, brilliant stuff! I am on meds that give me a dry mouth and lips plus use a cpap machine at night so I suffer from dry lips a lot. I have several different ones on the go, Carmex, nivea, nivea cocoa one in a pot, I like to chop and change 😊
