Hello,
Just wondering really what’s the norm.. I usually ignore the packet info that tells you to bin the product in however many months. I use skin creams & foundation til they’re gone, & chuck mascara when it goes claggy.
I realise that there may be colonies of bacteria growing though in those little pots & tubes & wanted to plumb Mumsnet wisdom on the matter :)

Fishandthechips I've got all of the UD Book of Shadows sets from the very first one to the limited edition Alice in Wonderland. I still use them and the thought of and throwing them out because they have expired would be akin to throwing out my first born!!

Could anyone recommend a good foundation, powder, primer? Might be asking a lot here. I have no idea what I am suppose to do with a primer? Anytime I have tried a powder it has made me look cakey and extra wrinkley. I feel my skin looks a bit shiny without a powder, though still don't use powder and just go about looking oily.

I had been using boots no 7 foundation for past few years. I have now finished it and on a night out next Saturday so desperate to get a new super duper foundation. I am old. Late 40's. Quite dry skin so I need to put tons of moisturiser on under my foundation to get the foundation on.

Maybe I should you tube how to apply foundation, primer etc?

Desperate for products recommendations please. Thanks.

I ignore. Never had a problem so far. It's not like using old makeup is one of the causes of cancer or anything.

I am 43 and still have some make up items from when I was 15 Shock. I'd still use them if I needed that particular colour. In particular I have a nice eyeshadow set which I got for my 15th birthday which I came across recently and realised would work well now so I've started using it again. No ill effects.

Similarly I have an ancient bottle of body shop white musk which I will occasionally dab on if I'm feeling nostalgic. Purchased circa 1989.

Creams tend to separate and go funny after a while and so they get used up more quickly. I am on a mission to use everything up though before I purchase anything else since clearly things last me a long time even though I wear full make up every day.
