Hi can anyone who knows the range well help please? My dd (15) has fab skin - still that of a child, but with a few blackheads around the nose and occasional spot around her period. She is not even vaguely interested in skin care or make up. I wanted to get her some skincare for Christmas and was inclined to get toleraine cleanser / moisturiser. Is efeclar really just for those with spotty / oily skins or is it gentle enough for good but with occasional spot? Tia x

I would avoid effaclar if she doesn't have oily/spot prone skin- it's really harsh- I used it for a few post pregnancy spots and ended up really messing my skin up.

The Toleriane would be better. Although I really like the Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser (I remove with water rather than cotton wool like it says on the pack) and i know a lot of others really rate it as well. They do a three step set, as do the Toleriane which would make a nice gift.

Great thank you. Am really keen for her not to overdo it with products

My Dd 19 has, like your DD, great skin with only the occasional hormonal spot. She uses the LP Effaclar. I first bought her the 3 step which was great in sorting out her skin, which had started to go a bit spotty when she was 16, but now she finds that the cleanser and toner is a bit too harsh for her. She still uses the Duo cream and says that what keeps her skin clear. I would definitely recommend using the Duo cream as it really has been a game changer for my Dd.

I would agree with the Effaclar Duo only if skin is mainly clear

I have the three step pack as well but only use all 3 occasionally as skin is now clear

If I don't use the Duo regularly however, I notice a spotty return

If she's clear with just the occasional spot I wouldn't use the duo either as it's got salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide in to deal with spots- which is great for spot prone skin but for skin with occasional hormonal spots it is still harsh- also if used every day on skin that doesn't need it it can end up over exfoliating (which makes your skin shiny, oilier and spottier- what happened to me with the effaclar).

Would be so much better if her skin is already nice to just get her into a good cleansing and moisturising routine so something like the Toleriane or the Avene would work nicely. You could always get her to use a 'hot cloth' (aka a good old fashioned cotton flannel) to wash the cleanser off with, which gets skin super clean and less likely to get blackheads etc anyway.

Thanks all. She does wash with flannels (when she washes ....) because that's what I do. I think really the few spots she is getting are just unavoidable and I don't want her to nuke them which it sounds like the efficlar may do. Will go with the toleraine and see how she goes x

I would go with Toleriane as it is a lovely gentle range and there is an Effaclar targeted spot treatment (‘Breakout Corrector’) that you just apply to spots as they appear so that could be used as required. LRP is in 3 for 2 in Boots at the minute.
