Help stop me turning into Miss Trunchbull

In danger of becoming one of those women with a matronly bosom and sensible shoes...

I'm a size 14 former hourglass with 34f boobs. Today I wore a pencil skirt, round neck jumper (I know v neck is better, but it was a Tkmaxx Jaeger bargain) and black block heel ankle boots.

My legs looked stubby and my bunions are killing me Sad

Ballet flats make me look like those hippos in fantasia, brogues make me look Prisoner cell block H and kitten heels just seem too dainty.

I'm loving the French thread and going shopping this weekend for a red lippy, but could really do with some tips, particularly on footwear. I think if I can get my feet right the rest will followSmile

Haha oh no as long as you don't develop an aversion to children and don't force overweight kids to eat chocolate cake you should be okay! What about wedges? They are easy to walk in and comfortable, wedge boots for winter? Really modern and stylish. Being only a size 14 you're no where near trunchbull size.
Yes v neck def better and more flattering for your figure. Modern shirts would work well as well I'd stay away from round necks at all costs.

Thanks Bella, somehow I'd forgotten all about wedges. They'd fit the bill perfectly.

Will check out the link for nork management tipsWink

If you can tuck tops into a skirt then a decent shirt with a pencil skirt to just below the knee should look good. It'll highlight your curves and the V of the shirt gives a good vertical focus.

Miss Trunchball is my hero.

Start with good underwear. Supportive pants and bras with uplift (half cup styles are good for this).

Dresses are good for lengthening and streamlining the silhouette. If you're an hourglass try styles that are fitted at the waist and then flare out over the hips. Styles just to the knee are flattering. Or try a skater style knee-length skirt paired with a shirt in the same colour (again, for elongating effect). Or try slim-fit dark jeans paired with a fitted but not skin-tight long shirt, top or jumper (round-neck can be fine for hourglasses actually, but stay away from roll-necks). You want tops to be hip-length rather than waist-length to elongate the body where you're carrying "volume" around the breasts, but not too loose or you'll look shapeless.

For shoes how about loafers, block-heel ballerinas/courts, or ankle boots with a dip in the front to lengthen the leg? BUT, if you have bunions you need to go to a podiatrist and get their advice about what kinds of shoes you can wear or you risk wrecking your feet completely. You can dig out stylish shoes from the selection once you find out what works for your health.

Yes Whyte to good foundations. Just been for a new bra fitting and feel tons better for itSmile.

I suspect surgery is the only way forward for my troublesome trotters! Will make a Chiropody appointment a NY resolution (have been adopting the ostrich approach until now)

I think there is a point when we all get too old sensible for pretty shoes. Embrace the Josef Siegel look.

Bella8 · 22/11/2017 16:12

Nooo you're never too old for 'sexy' shoes...embrace the inner diva!!
