I love the look of <fill in the blank> but I'm not sure I'm getting away with it.

Millions of insouciant/breezy types are crushing it on Pinterest with their slouchy, Scandicasual baggy sock/clog combo. On me (not Japanese, skinny and/or blonde) it might be a bit Nora Batty. Is that because I'm not good at it or because it's not good for me (iyswim)?

Wearing with rolled-up skinny jeans, a linen t and a long cardi. I've tried shorter/longer/thinner/chunkier/folded/slouchy versions of sock but nothing has fallen into place.

Anyone else trying something new and not sure if you can leave the house in it?

After what seems like years just wearing nude polish, I have gone red. I've received compliments from everyone that has seen me this morning, but still not sure. My hands just look so loud

I'm the opposite with nail polish. I try pale colours but always fall back to variation of red.

Currently my fringe. I'm aiming for Sophia Vergara but by the end of the day it has curled up at the end and looks terrible.

I've bought and taken back long pleated skirts a couple of times. I can't manage the 'dress it down with a slouchy jumper' look.

Freshprincess yes, same here with the 'wear two opposite kinds of clothes and they will balance each other'. I bought a pleated silver skirt a couple of years ago and it seemed to go with nothing. In fact, everything I wore with it made it look like it came out of a dressing-up box, yk where all your mum's/grandma's old slips, heels and hats were kept.

In a similar vein I bought these bloody clogs because I thought they were the perfect non-accessory to make every outfit look effortlessly casual yet put-together. Irl they seem to go with nothing I own. The chunky heel looks wrong with casual clothes (why wear heels with, say, joggers or jeans?) and weirdly dressy with dressy clothes (but not so dressy that it works). They just seem to go with nothing.

Maybe the secret is being young? Young people in odd clothes looks edgy but I'm getting to the age where I look a bit demented/self-neglecting in anything edgily out-of-context (sandals/socks, underwear as outerwear, formal/shiny skirt with slouchy jumper etc). It makes me look like my carer had the day off.

rightknockered I find with coloured polish my nails need to be utterly short (almost to the skin) or I feel like I'm in drag. Same with heels, any kind of dressy heel makes me feel crazily red-carpet overdressed and draggy. I bet it looks nice on you though, I love nail varnish.
