I'm growing my hair and its not in the best condition. Have an appointment to have it dyed (get rid of the greys), and also having it trimmed to get rid of the split ends. The length right now is just past my shoulders the back and almost reaching my at the sides.

I think I'm washing it too much, blow drying and straightening it too much. It's all a bit frizzy and fly away.

So any tips on how much I should wash it, blow dry it, and use a curling iron/straighteners. Or what products to use. I'm pretty much washing it around 5 days out of 7 per week, but using conditioner every day, and I do use heat protection spray when blow drying it/straightening it. Just can't get a silky look. Instead it's just looking all a bit meh

Thanks

I found washing it before bed and applying Moroccan hair oil then leaving to dry overnight before straightening in morning really improved the condition . My hair has grown twice the length! Asda do a cheaper Moroccan hair oil .

Get a keratin blowdry it has literally changed my life!! I used to have frizzy, lanky crap hair now i have silky, shiny locks.
Its a bit pricey mines was £180 but so worth it, its suppose to last 3-5 months depending on how often you wash it. Im on week 8 and its still silky smooth.

The most important thing would to make sure you only wash the roots. You could throw in some masks or oils too. Or try Olapex or a keratin blow dry. Personal experience with the latter was that it was a bit rubbish with colour. Leached the pigment if used after dyeing and if used before, the colour would ruin the keratin.

I got my hair coloured two weeks after my keratin treatment and it was perfect, didn’t ruin my keratin at all

Thanks for all your help

Bought some Moroccan Oil this morning. Washed my hair, conditioned it, wrapped it in a towel until it was damp, then applied the Moroccan Oil and some heat resistant spray. Blow dried on a low heat, then straightened it.

It is so much better already and feels really soft and silky. So thanks so much for that tip.

Will ask the stylist when I have my appointment for dyeing about the keratin treatment :)

My hair’s improved massively since I’ve changed how it’s washed. I have past shoulders hair and have it trimmed ever 6-8 weeks. I was told to:

Wet my hair completely in the shower.
Use shampoo in a massaging (rather than rubbing and scrubbing) fashion.
NO piling the hair on top of the crown, and rubbing to get a lather: it’s NOT necessary.
Rinse. The shampoo falls down the hair shaft (and cleanses it sufficiently, as it goes).

Condition mid to longer lengths only and DONT RINSE TIL SQUEEKY CLEAN.

If you can, allow to dry naturally (easier with longer hair). If not, let it get 80% dry and finish to style with a warm only, hairdryer.

Seems like a big faff but it’s just a better habit to get into, if you’re growing your hair.

Sea Kelp helps too!
