Running gear that looks reasonably stylish on round and plumptious women

Ok - used to run quite a lot. Am planning to restart (have found a running friend) with inaugural run this Friday!!!

But don't want to be an embarrassing eyesore on the roads and feel conspicuous in front of passing pedestrians and cars. Want to feel reasonably self confident despite being size 18, and be able to concentrate on my running and not what I look like!

Where can I find running gear that will look okay on 'generous proportions' - and also what's hot and what's not in sportswear these days (Okay - basically tell me exactly what to wear and where to get it!!)

Highstreet would be good - so I can go into town on Thursday and get some, but also internet sites ....

My well-endowed friends swear by Less Bounce and Booby Doo for sports bras, particularly the Enell ones.

Agree not Sweaty Betty if above size 14. For trousers, Rohnisch make lovely wide pants flattering for big thighs, not too flappy to run in, they also do plus sizes. Can find on sheactive.co.uk (sale on at the moment).

I find the Shock Absorber sports bra (go for a Level 4) really supportive. Also straps don't fall off shoulders!

JuliaFrogspawn · 13/01/2009 23:12

plumptious is a shit word
do you mean fat?

mooseloose · 14/01/2009 09:25

Julia - that's a bit rude

I thought it was a great word, it made me smile!

StepfordKnife · 14/01/2009 12:56

Juliafrogspawn - fuck off, there's a love [big sigh at frustrated angry people who vent their spleen for no particular reason]

(and for the record - this is a resurrected thread with an old thread title by FFBR)

Bravo Bravo!!! Well said Stepford! I was a bit shocked about that abrupt interuption out of nowhere on this nice quiet minding-its-own-business thread!

fishie · 14/01/2009 21:39

mooseloose i have a similar thing with freya running bra, the bit of material which goes underneath hooks was too short. fine when i did it up another notch. maybe you could fiddle with the straps, is that what is causing injury?

mooseloose · 14/01/2009 21:58

I looked at it (off )and honestly can't work out what can be rubbing me - I really have two holes in my back - they were stinging when i stepped in the shower! It must be the fabric on the hook and eye one side - but dunno about the other side! Its as loose as it will go - bought on the assumption that it will stretch and i will then need to tighten it! i will have to put a plaster on!

fishie · 14/01/2009 22:25

put it back on and get someone to look at you.

this site has some good cheap longer length shirts. Although the model is half my size she does demonstrate their cut and length.
