Dh needs a make over, help!

I have no idea what to do with him... Dh has never cared about how he looks and has always favoured tracksuit bottoms and hoodies. In his twenties this looked sporty but now as a forty something he needs to smarten himself up. He complains that anything that doesn't have an elasticated waist is uncomfortable so I don't really know where to start! Can anyone point me in the direction of age appropriate casual clothing that isn't joggers and a fleece? Thank you so much!

My husband is what I would describe as ‘husky’ in appearance - bearded lumberjack type look. Because he’s not super lean, a lot of the current styles like skinny jeans would look ridiculous. He tends to wear Levi’s a lot, but not the denim jeans more like the chino jeans type thing in 514 or 511 style, with shirts from Gap or Levi’s (often checked/plaid) with the sleeves rolled up. He also wears brogue boots. I think he looks really relaxed but always smart and dresses well for his body type. So I’d plump for Gap/Levi’s!

I was going to suggest slim fit Levis too, good range of styles so might take a bit of trying on but can find something that suits.

Uniqlo also do nice casual chinos that my DH likes, probably a bit more comfortable than denim. Nice with a plain colour sweatshirt and casual boots.

Is he overweight ? Joggers are really comfy but grim. Anything beyond them will feel tight though. I would take him to tk maxx and try loads of stuff on to see what works .

Has he considered his manflute in track pants? It’s not a good look as you get older.

I’d get him into soft jeans - like vintage wash - and chinos as people have said.

Thanks for all your input, I think chinos is going to be the place to start, maybe work up to jeans. He's actually pretty slim but just really sensitive to waistbands, he's basically been dressing like our toddler for the last few years and has got used to comfort Grin

Classically stylish DH tends to wear chinos or Diesel jeans (happen to fit him best) + suede shoes/boots + casual shirts + v neck merino jumpers with the occasional chunky knitted jumper.
I would advise anything skinny or too slim fitting in this age bracket.

I just bought DH a ton of stuff in Uniqlo. Sizing for men is more generous than for women.
