Cleanser - what do you use and will you repurchase?

I'm always after new products to try. Rarely repurchase anything these days!

At the moment I'm using:

Waitrose pure hydration hot cloth cleanser - I LOVE this, its £5 and it's amazing, I have repurchased this actually. I like it better than the Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser.

M&S formula hylauronic acid hot cloth cleanser - I love this and would buy it again.

M&S formula hylauronic acid foaming face wash - this is ok, I'll use it up but won't repurchase as it stings my eyes and I'm too lazy to use a separate eye makeup remover, so I mostly use this in the morning.

I like to double cleanse, usually I remove makeup with a micellar wipe and then use my cleanser.

What do you use?

Anyone considering buying Eve Lom: smell it first! It's got a really strong scent which puts lots of people off, myself included. I was given a sample of it but I binned it.

silkpyjamasallday · 17/11/2017 15:05

I use the Eve Lom balm cleanser and I love it, I think it smells nice and clean in a non synthetic way, combined with my foreo Luna my skin has never been better. Occasionally use bioderma micellar water if I just want to clean my face really quickly.

Gusthetheatrecat · 17/11/2017 15:38

I am using the Body Shop camomile oil (convenient as it's in a pump. But I prefer the balm so won't repurchase). Also the Superdrug hot cloth cleanser, which I do like but am not passionate about.
My favourite cleanser is Soap and Glory Peaches and Clean which is lovely and affordable and easy to use and good for my skin.
I really want to get some Elemis, and some Emma Hardie though. So am staunchly avoiding the rest of the replies on this thread and trying not to get out my wallet....!

AstridWhite · 17/11/2017 15:53

Elemis oil balm cleanser. On my third pot. I LOVE it. It smells completely divine and it's worth every penny.

Eve Lom. It's just okay. I was expecting to like it more given all the hype. Very thick paste like consistency, does its job well but smells too much like Coal Tar soap to feel like a the high end product it aims to be. Would not rush to re-buy, given the high price of EL I'd rather have the Elemis any day.

Emma Hardie moringa balm - I really dislike the scent of all the Moringa products and would not buy again for this reason.

I also have a pot of the Pixi Glow 2 in 1 type cleanser but I haven't opened it yet.

Boot No 7 Oil balm cleanser, I have had several tubes of this, it's a great budget option. Great quality for the money. Lovely consistency. No fragrance.

Elemis Oil Cleanser (not the balm in a pot but an actual oil in a bottle.) The jury is still out on this for me. It's very oily and more difficult to wash off than the balm and it's a bit too highly perfumed I think. I always feel like I should be splashing it into my bath water rather than rubbing it into my face.

Cetaphil. It's cheap and utilitarian and it feels and smells cheap and utilitarian. It does its job I suppose but it's not a pleasure to use. Would not re-buy.

For those of you that use an oil or balm cleanser, do you use a second cleanser to remove any residue?

I always take my mascara off first with Clarins Eye Make up Remover (the one with the oil in it which is brilliant.) Then if I have a full face of make up I do a quick go over with a cotton wool pad and micellar water first, before doing my hot cloth cleanse with the balm.

First thing in the morning or when I am make up free I just go straight to the balm.

Ollivander84 · 17/11/2017 16:07

La Roche posay toleriane dermo. I buy 800ml at a time from easy para pharmacie online as it's cheaper. Love it!
Sometimes soap and glory peaches and clean

PercySimone · 17/11/2017 16:09

I feel like I’m living in the 1950’s reading what other people use. I’d quite like to live in the modern world and update my (lack of) skincare regime but I wouldn’t know where to start.
I use a normal flannel with hot water, sometimes with soap. Moisturiser from Poundland/Aldi/Lidl. Sometimes use honey/honey and sugar or sand. I’m 50 and look 10 years younger (apparently). I feel 100 though if anyone knows of any magic elixir for energy?

wasMissD · 17/11/2017 16:36

I tried flannel and water once and after day two I had the flakiest, driest face! Was gutted.

ElspethFlashman · 17/11/2017 16:36

I don't bother doing a second cleanse after using an oil cleanser. I don't think it's necessary, oil cleansers really take off everything.

Wish there were more Korean brands available. It's annoying having to buy online and wait for it to come and they do lovely cleansers. There's a Cosrx Good Morning cleanser that gets ecstatic reviews.

Uhohmummy · 17/11/2017 16:43

I use Emma Hardin Moringa Cleansing Balm which I love and wouldn’t be without now. I use it after Bioderma Micellar water.

Also just started using Ren Ever Clear Clay cleanser every few days in the mornings - it’s nice. When not using that I use Avenue gentle cleansing lotion.

WhooooAmI24601 · 17/11/2017 16:48

I switch between Eve Lom, Elemis and Liz Earle cleansers; all of them are similar in suiting my skin but I double cleanse with Liz Earle first then the Eve Lom or Elemis afterwards. It's made an incredible difference to my skin.

The only thing I buy repeatedly are those and Estee Lauder's Night repair. Nothing else has ever come close. I flirt with makeup brands and types but never vary my skincare routine any more.

PurpleDaisies · 17/11/2017 16:49

Estée Lauder multi action cleanser here. I’ve tried other things but always come back to it.

AmeliaFlashtart · 17/11/2017 18:07

I repeat buy
LRP effaclar duo wash
Dermalogica special cleansing gel
Bioderma sensibio water
Any French brand cleanser for sensitive skin from TKMaxx

AmeliaFlashtart · 17/11/2017 18:14

PercySimone

I think the trick is to do what your skin needs and if your results are good then you are doing something right! Merely throwing lots of products at skin in a strict regime twice a day is not always the best thing, Some regimes (not on this thread) sound more like people have declared chemical and mechanical warfare on their skin then they wonder why they have breakouts/flakey red bits and use even more products!

user1485196412 · 17/11/2017 18:20

Sanctuary miceller foam - it's amazing!

Nyancat · 17/11/2017 18:36

body shop balm cleanser followed by cidal soap. The balm takes off all my makeup but i have very acne prone skin and the cidal was recommended on here, cheap as anything and has cleared my skin right up. Cidal on its own is too drying but when i use the balm first it works great.

PercySimone · 17/11/2017 22:48

Amelia I think that’s what it is. I’ve never really done anything more than I did as a child apart from add moisturiser. So, I guess my skin got used to not having anything else. I’ve never worn make up (bar the odd swipe of eye liner). I wear hats summer and winter (different hats!) and hate the sun. But .... I kind of feel I’m missing something? I see all these products when I occasionally enter a shop (hate shopping), I look at them all, them my head explodes and I carry on with flannel and soap. But maybe I could glow? Or wear make up? It all confuses me to be honest. I bring a little bit of sand home from the beach (usually in the turn ups of my jeans), mix it with honey and use it as a scrub. Part of me thinks the millions of different creams etc is all hocum pokum and emporers new clothes. Also, we live in a world where everyone’s expected to look ‘shiny’ and ‘bright’ but really this comes from fresh air, healthy food and exercise. Except we forget this and want a pet noodle solution.

PercySimone · 17/11/2017 22:50

Sorry everyone that was a bit of a derail/essay Blush

Fozzleyplum · 17/11/2017 23:49

Perry, I'm with you. I have dry skin and I use oil (coconut or something else cheap) or occasionally Superdrug hot cloth cleanser, and a flannel to cleanse, and Nivea Soft to moisturise. I keep out of the sun, eat a good diet and I have good skin. I tried many of the higher end products years ago, and concluded that for me, they were the Emperor's new clothes.
