Removal of fine, downy facial hair

Hi, I have developed fine, downy, light-coloured hair on the sides of my face and I'm wondering how to get rid of it, as it has become quite thick, and IMO quite noticeable. I don't want to wax or shave as I'm pretty sure that would make it grow back worse. Laser would not be suitable as apparently it only works on dark hair. I've also read that it can make hair growth worse. I'm wondering about hair removal creams, but the reviews on Amazon say lots of them cause rashes, and I have sensitive skin. (I used Veet on my legs and it gave me a rash.) Is there a hair removal cream that anyone with sensitive skin can recommend? I've also wondered about Alkaline Facial Wash hair removal cream (www.dmk-uk.com/treatments/alkaline-wash-fine-downy-hair-removal/), but I read this on a mumsnet post from 4 years ago: "I had a series of Danne skin treatments for adult acne and they do this Akaline wash. Some of my problems started after the therapist used an Akaline wash all over my face (its like a strong hair removal cream) it not only burned my skin but made all the soft downy hair that I didn't have a problem with, all spiky and stubbly.
It basically a very strong hair removal cream and I couldn't find any evidence that it worked permanently." I don't know whether that treatment has improved since then - I'd be really interested to hear anyone's experiences of it. I've been told that electrolysis wouldn't be suitable for such fine hair - I don't know whether that's definitely the case. I would be super grateful for any advice! Thank you!

I really wonder if the reluctance to shave is partly psychological - if so, I understand that. but honestly, throwing money at other people to do it, at times that may not be most convenient to you i't worth it, in this case

I get a full face thread and brows shaped for £10, bargain!

Never wear makeup so just like the smoother look of my skin with threading

I was going to post about this but more to ask if it’s really a bad thing. I’ve got a lot now it seems and do a bit of epilating with the spring thing but was wondering about make up and if it would be better without the hair...the fear of it coming back stubbly brings me out in s cold sweat

Marilyn Monroe loved hers :)

I've heard threading is good but never tried it.

I just give a quick swipe with a razor and it's absolutely fine.

The beauty industry has a vested interest in making us believe shaving is the devils work.

Mine is fairly light so I just leave it alone, but used to trim it with scissors

I was incredibly apprehensive the first time I used a razor to get rid of the downy facial hair. I used a tinkle razor which seemed a more acceptable way to reove hair and it was rubbish. I then used a normal razor and soon got over it as the results were great!

I had been using facial creams which as I got older was irritating and damaging my skin! Waxing also caused damage. All these processes cost time and money whereas a razor is cheap, quick and actually improves the quality of your skin.

It is a shame women are being conned into thinking we need elaborate and damaging ways to remove a little bit of fine hair from our faces.

I suddenly have lots of chin hair so I think I'm going to bite the bullet and just shave it as plucking just isnt working for me. I cant always see the fine hairs in a certain light so keep missing them.

IPL is good for the dark coarser hairs eg. on chin/upper lip. Shaving is good for downy pale hairs

illuminousopptomist · 18/11/2017 22:04

Yes it only works for downy, fair facial hair..

I use this set from Amazon. The razor is great for fine fluffy cheek hair and the spring pulls out the coarser ones on upper lip/chin.

DO NOT WAX or THREAD fine vellous hair, for some people it can stimulate folicules which produce coarse hair.
If you are really bothered just shave it, as this doesn't remove hair from root.

I absolutely love how soft and smooth my face is after threading. And YY to make -up going on better afterwards.
I cry real tears while it's being done though!
