Finally found a curly hairdresser. When she cuts my hair, she makes it bouncy and curly. I manage to keep it that way by using the products she recommends - blob of gel when it’s soaking wet, blot with a tshirts and leave to dry/ maybe finish off with diffuser. But after a few weeks, it always starts going limp and straight. This has happened when my hair has been various lengths so I don’t think it’s the weight of the growing hair pulling it down.

Why can’t my feckin hair just be consistent??!!! I really like my hair curly, why’s it so bloody hard to keep it that way?

I've been doing the curly girl method since January. Some of it is confusing but it's really helped me. Prior to that I straightened my hair for 20 years. What really helped me was identifying my hairs porosity and protein level. My hair is very very porous so just sucks up moisture and whatever product I put in it. If your hair is going stringy it sounds like it's reacting to protein. Coconut acts like a protein as do other ingredients. My hair is high protein and hates coconut. I wash with a cheap conditioner then mix a bit of a decent leave in with gel and put it in in the shower when my hair is soaking wet. I wrap it in a t-shirt (towels take water out too quickly which isn't good for curly hair) then put some mouse in and diffuse on low. I refresh it on non wash days with a water mist with a few drops of jojoba oil in.

Oh I read a line in a book once where the character had 'the kind of hair which guaranteed a bad hair life'.

It struck some resonance!

Right, realised I have a silicone-free Elvive shampoo and have bought the brown Garnier Blends conditioner. Going to start trying some of your suggestions that involve clarifying/not using silicones ...BTW does anyone know if Boots curl creme contains silicones?

I find boots curl creme really sticky but a lot of them are so maybe it’s me . Cantu products are great and not mega expensive .

Ollivander84 · 18/11/2017 21:22

Boots curl cream doesn't but it has a drying alcohol in so not technically CG safe

Chocwocdoodah · 19/11/2017 21:21

Ok thanks both.
Hendricks - I’ve used Cantu shampoo before and really didn’t get on with it. It made my hair feel totally stripped of any moisture and squeaky - which of the products in the range do you use?
