I suddenly look so old!

I’m 43 so not a spring chicken but I suddenly look old. I’ve lost a bit of weight recently and I feel like my face has sort of collapsed and looks especially wrinkly around my mouth.
What magic potions can I put on my face to help please?

Hi. I have no advice but just wanted to say there’s been a few of these threads recently- one of which I started. We’re all in the same boat! It’s shit isn’t it? But I bet it’s not nearly as bad as you think. You’re probably just being harsh on yourself. Flowers

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 05/11/2017 17:55

I’m no expert, I’ll get that out of the way right now. I’m 49, been around the block and love skincare so I’ll tell you what I’d do.

Drink a lot of water every day.
Double cleanse with an oil then a nourishing cream or balm.
Use flannels to clean off the product.
But a decent acid toner ( I use pads) then spritz with a hydrating one afterwards.
Massage in a serum and top with an all round moisturiser.

I've just taken a screenshot of your advice, StillStayingClassySanDiego Grin

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 05/11/2017 18:03

Sorry, posted too soon.

What’s your budget?

I’m a massive fan of NIOD, I’ve said it on another thread today , I really rate their products.

Vichy do good stuff , a serum they do is particularly good for dry and dehydrated skin. Superdrug are also producing very good skincare at very reasonable prices if your budget is tight.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 05/11/2017 18:08

Ginger Smile there are posters here with a more in-depth knowledge than me.

OP, eat more watery food too; cucumber, beansprouts ,melon and lots of spinach.

Themummy76 · 05/11/2017 18:19

Factor 50 on your face - every day

NellMangel · 05/11/2017 18:37

I hear you OP. 41 and single parent to toddler. Prior to child I was always told how young I looked. People couldn't believe my age. Now? Greys that dye can't keep up with, hair looks thin, odd vertical eye wrinkles, saggy tits.

Tits aside I think lack of sleep is the culprit and that is beyond my control.

I've started taking boots skin hair nails multi vitamin, using sanctuary hot cloth cleanser and lacura caviar serum. Think my skin looks bit better.

I'll be taking note of any advice you get .

Gingernaut · 05/11/2017 18:41

Thanks StillStayingClassySanDiego

I'll lurk with NellMangel Wink

Plenty of potions or procedures you can do..retin A, red light therapy, micro needling, acid peels, and of course lots of heavily moisturizing oils and creams and sunblock.

But loss of facial fullness (in the temples, upper cheeks, lip area) it appearance of Jowls ages you more than wrinkles. You mentioned losing weight, so I’d look into fat transfer or fillers.

Dustbunny1900 · 05/11/2017 19:07

And ** not it

Blondielongie · 05/11/2017 19:14

I've aged since having a child and I'm only late 20s....

lottieandmia22 · 05/11/2017 19:18

Caci treatments will help to stop your face from sagging.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 05/11/2017 19:27

I'm early forties and since last week I've noticed my face looking positively elderly.

I'm telling myself it's an illusion in the harsh winter light but have also started using No. 7 perfect and protect serum which claims to make my skin look younger in 14 days.
I'm on day 3 and no difference so far.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 05/11/2017 21:50

Another vote for CACI facials if you have the budget for them. @StillStayingClassySanDiego which toning pads do you use please?

reallyneedmoresleep · 05/11/2017 22:32

Thanks for the replies - sorry to sound like a dimwit but do you use serum and then moisturiser on top? I always thought it was either/or.
Also, please can someone tell me more about what CACI facials are? I will google but always useful to hear first hand experiences.
Tits - ha! I swear when I lie down they slope off round my armpits now. I bought a couple of rigby & peller bras (£££!) which help when I’m wearing clothes but I do worry about bruising my knees when I take the bra off...

oldlaundbooth · 06/11/2017 01:46

Dunno anything about the facials or serums but you should eat good fat, salmon, almonds etc. Plump your skin up.

IvorHughJarrs · 06/11/2017 01:48

Bear in mind that skin takes a while to shrink after you lose weight so you may find things slowly improve. I was told it can shrink for up to 2 years after loss

Good hydration, good fats in diet and good skincare will all help

ShovingLeopard · 06/11/2017 01:55

Another 43 year old here, whose looks have gone south (quite literally in the case of my jaw line) in the last couple of years since having a baby.

Wrinkles-wise I'm ok, but what on earth can I do about the jowls? I'm in danger of becoming a looky-likey for the Churchill dog!

Bimbop5 · 06/11/2017 02:00

Argh I feel your pain! I'm 42 and I'm shocked by my jowls and eye bags. And then I have stupid allergies that puff up my eyes in all the wrong places. I keep thinking I should just gain 10 lbs and see if it helps. I'm 5'6" and 120 lbs. I used to be 160 and now I'm so saggy even with jogging 3 times a week, grrrr. I've been using Andalou products and sometimes when my skin is really dry I use La Rochs Posay Lipikar butter. But I don't think these products are helping enough!

princesscasino · 06/11/2017 02:29

For making the eye area look younger and tighter I was really really impressed with (deep breath) " Clarins Extra-Firming Tightening Lift Botanical Anti Ageing Face Serum" (I know, it's a bit of a mouthful to say) - having tried lots of under eye firming potions including the Ren one and some others, this was by far the best. It's not cheap so I am hoping someone will buy me a new one for xmas. BTW I also rate this as much better than the Clarins Double Serum and the results are instant.

zippyswife · 06/11/2017 07:27

Noooooo don’t put on weight to puff out the wrinkles. I tried this recently. The weight went on in one place- to form a sporan like flesh apron- c section overhang. It did not puff out my face or wrinkly sagging boobs. I would definitely urge against this plan. I am now trying to lose the flesh sporan!

Helena17 · 06/11/2017 09:46

Putting on weight won't help getting rid of your wrinkles. drink lots of water and avoid oily food. Apart from cosmetics, It's good to be healthy inside and have an optimistic outlook. I suggest yoga as a good thing to try as well.

chocdog · 06/11/2017 10:02

My advice is don't look and don't obsess.
Yes, it's a good idea to wear sunscreen, but however much you spend on products, you are just going to look older and older as the years go by, like everyone else.
The only thing that could change that is expensive top-quality surgery. And that just looks weird in real life in my opinion.
I am much older than you and I just don't scrutinise my face. At your age everyone's eyesight starts to f up anyway so in everyday life, friends your age won't see what you can see in your well-lit bathroom mirror.

Don't let the minute changes in your face get you down. They are inevitable.

  • Wear clothes and makeup that suit you.
  • Have fun and enjoy your life.
  • Get softer lighting in the bathroom.
chocdog · 06/11/2017 10:11

If you do look a bit gaunt after your weight loss I bet this is only temporary. (Well done by the way!) I have noticed this on friends who have lost weight and their faces seem to fill back out again naturally after a few months.
