Never bought them before but in early forties I'm now thinking the comfort and warmth is what I need.
Was thinking if classic shirt or tall in chocolate brown. Has anyone got any recommendations and where is best to buy then from.
Apologies, I'm sure this has been done over and over.

You can wash them in the washing machine, but you have to be careful to stuff them as much as you can with newspaper whilst they're drying or they get wrinkly. Even then it takes a few days in the airing cupboard.

Far better to get black or chocolate. I've had grey and they were beautiful - but hard to keep clean and annoying when you get a stain.

Ive had the short but the regular height is a bit warmer on the calves. And the short can look stumpy in tall people.

I've had 3 pairs over the last 12 years. The sole eventually gets too worn and slippy and they just get too shabby looking. Tbh from now on I'm buying EMUs for that style of shoe. Much cheaper and arguably nicer!

But I still rely on Uggs now for proper walking boots with sheepskin lining like the Wilton (I think that was the name?) that everyone on here bought last year in the February sale.

starsky22 · 21/10/2017 07:51

I would recommend the Celtic & Co boots, I have the original celtic boot in black, so comfy and have lasted a lot better than my last two pairs of uggs, which ended up with holes on the toe area. I do wear them outside, but not if it's pouring with rain, as they'd get ruined. Also they are no good in snow/skiing (neither are uggs) they'd get wet and there's not enough grip on the sole and you'd slip over.

MagicFajita · 21/10/2017 07:55

I will echo what others have said about Ugg boots op. They are expensive but can easily rip. I have a weird gait in that my big toe sticks up when I walk , the pair I owned ended up with a hole on top within 8/9 months and it disappointed me enough to stop me buying another pair.

GoGoGazelle · 21/10/2017 07:55

I've just bought my first pair (grey, classic short) and it's love. Wish I'd got some years ago. Mine say they have been pre-treated but am only going to wear them when it's dry.

millymae · 21/10/2017 08:03

I have been an Ugg lover for years ( have 2 pairs of old tatty classic talls in my wardrobe plus Ugg Chelsea boots and trainers) but earlier this week I bought a pair of FitFlop Mukluk Shorty Ankle Boots in tan, and so far I love them.
I'm not sure I'd wear them with a skirt, like Uma Thurman in the FitFlop advert, as they are designed to be worn without socks or tights but for the last 3 days they've been my go to footwear surviving a heavy rain shower unscathed..

WomblingThree · 21/10/2017 08:25

There are plenty of Ugg brand boots that are waterproof and have outdoor soles. The Classic short and tall, I would only wear when it was dry.

All the boots on this page are all-weather. If you find a pair you like and search for them, you will probably find them much cheaper, but check on the Ugg site that they are from an authorised reseller.

My favourite Ugg-alike boots are Bearpaws. I got mine for £30 a pair from TKMaxx. They’ve got proper soles and a quick spray with waterproofing and they are great.

Whichever ones you buy, make sure they’ve got an actual sheepskin lining, not synthetic. The synthetic ones are cheap, but pointless as they aren’t warm. Real sheepskin are best worn without socks as the wool against your skin traps the heat better. If you just like the look and don’t care about being warm, you may as well buy the £7 ones from Primark and chuck them out when they get tatty.

blueberrygoose · 21/10/2017 08:25

I’ve had a good few pairs over the years and always wore them outside in all weathers and my feet and the boots have been fine. Smile

WomblingThree · 21/10/2017 08:26

Forgot to say, M&M Direct usually have great prices on Uggs, and they are a legit seller.

beingsunny · 21/10/2017 08:29

Please don’t wear them outside of the house Grin

Mugshotzforlunch · 21/10/2017 08:34

Have a look at mukluk boots. The best come from the US manitobah website.
But you can get variants in the UK just Google mukluk.

50ShadesOfEarlGrey · 21/10/2017 08:59

I wear EMUs. They do totally waterproof ones or their standard ones are water resistant. I have found them to be amazing. The waterproof ones are a little harder on the outside but still soft and very comfortable. I have worn my waterproof pair for four years, walked (through snow, streams, mud, sodden ground) almost every day as part of my job. Never had to re waterproof, wore them several miles dog walking last weekend, feet totally dry and almost too hot! They are still a great shape, haven’t stretched, the heel cup is strong.
I will warn you that apparently, according to Teenage DD, they are now deeply untrendy and she very politely mentions maybe I should think of going boot shopping with her sometime! They are a pair of little comfort blankets in bad weather so I don’t care about the fashion bit.

Bluesheep8 · 21/10/2017 08:59

Emu are much better in my opinion as the sheepskin insoles are removable for washing. Plus, many styles are properly waterproof.

Bluesheep8 · 21/10/2017 09:00

X post with another emu fan! Coincidence Grin

KoolKoala07 · 21/10/2017 09:03

I've had 3 pairs over the last 7 years or so and they've been absolutely fine for outdoor use. I just use a protective spray and away I go.

chewiecat · 21/10/2017 09:12

Ouch I'm thinking classic ii short black.. what about you?? I don't know if I can wait until xmas though Wink

Ooh found some waterproof ones! But so expensive Shock

ouchmyfanjo · 21/10/2017 13:56

Wow. Lots to think about here. Chewie those look lovely but £££. Worth it if they become your favourites though .
I was thinking of tall in chocolate or grey. Think in going to try some on before ordering. I'm also looking at Celtic and emu based on comments here; thank you everyone.
I am travelling away for few days and am wishing I already had 2 foot blankets to wear Grin
I won't have internet connection where we are staying but chewie please let me know what you decide. I think you should get them now!if you wait but Xmas you'll have missed out on wearing them for 2 months! Are you buying or is it a gift from someone? Not sure my dp would fork out for them!

Thank you for tip wombling. Never heard of mandm. Chewie I can't link nut they have black short classic for £99 with free delivery. Not waterproof but I wonder with protective spray it may be a way to try them out without forking out for the latest version. I may well do that.
Better stop for now.making myself travel sick typing in car Envy Grin

Ttbb, I was given a pair of uggs and only wear them as slippers or to take the dog to the garden. That’s as far away from the house as mine go. I think maybe I should move to Australia.

Shopkinsdoll · 21/10/2017 14:21

I work in a shoe shop and I have had a few pairs of ugg boots. I like the grey ones and they sell leather uggs as well.

EraArils · 21/10/2017 14:32

I love my Ugg Wilcox leather biker boots, wore them today in fact. I do have 2 pairs of tall classic UGGs in chocolate and black and they are the snuggly, cosy and I do wear them outside. One pair are over 10 years old and one pair about 8 years old. They are still in excellent condition and not scruffy at all. Couldn't clear less if they aren't on trend.

Honestly, I've tried Emu's and they were a waste of money. The heel cup broke early on and they ended up with that slope to the side thing. Horrible boots and a total waste of money.

Ttbb · 21/10/2017 14:44

@Littlechocola maybe you should-I hope you like pavlova!

PNGirl · 21/10/2017 14:48

I've had my short chestnut Uggs for 5 years and they are pristine. And yes I do wear them outside. They are just boots. There is little about them to dislike!

I had Bearpaw but the leg lining was wool blend rather than sheepskin like the footbed, so I found it scratchy.

My favourite are my Celtic and Co anniversary short boots which were a limited edition dark grey. Lovely and comfy and not being Ugg branded aren't particularly either in or out of style!

Re: snow... No leather boots are really designed for snow. The salt marks are impossible to get out. That is why they sell wellies.

Babymamamama · 21/10/2017 14:59

If you are up to a size 5.5 adult you could probably get away with the children's range. They come up large and are quite a bit cheaper. I have the short kids version in chocolate brown from a few years ago. Don't wear them in wet weather and they look as good as new. Agree emu break down on the heel.

chewiecat · 26/10/2017 22:16
