Oh my god, been looking for maternity wear on the net and in shops today andcan't find any tops I like at all. Any suggestions? Oh, and not at Isabella Oliver prices - lovely but have no cash!

I got some stuff from Next and Blooming Marvellous, both on the net. I live in a northern market town and there was nothing, and I mean nothing, in the way of any maternity wear at all on my high street. Lots of us at the antenatal classes though so they're missing a trick.

colditz · 11/04/2007 23:16

Go to any shop, and buy some smocks, they all look like maternity wear anyway!

colditz · 11/04/2007 23:17

Try Asda

And H&M

JackieNo · 11/04/2007 23:20

What sort of style are you looking for? Topshop have some, all very smocky, and so do M&S (blimey - look at that tie neck puff sleeve monstrosity at the bottom of the page)

JackieNo · 11/04/2007 23:22

Also Pumpkin Patch looks quite nice.

Pannacotta · 12/04/2007 14:26

Try ebay (am selling some maternity clothes at the mo, user name annaw70).
Also had probs finding stuff and bought things on line, some on ebay, borrowed some etc etc...
Next do some ok things at the mo, plus agree Top Shop not bad...

Mojomummy · 12/04/2007 15:03

what size & height are you & how pregnant ? I've got a wardrobe just waiting to go on ebay...H&M linen trou (black, white & khaki), shorts, vest tops, skirts & dresses. All hardly worn & excellent condition

MrsBadger · 12/04/2007 15:15

my top pick is H&M, but if you can get to a Next To Nothing they often have good stuff heavily reduced. Vertbaudet and La Redoute have some nice things too, but really Ebay is the place.

I found that looking at my non-mat wardrobe was helpful in deciding what I was actually likely to wear - my capsule matwear is
3 pairs trous (H&M, Next, DP),
7 everyday tshirts (Gap, Next to Nothing & DP),
3 slightly nicer 'going out' tops (Gap, H&M)
2 short skirts (jojo from ebay)
1 long skirt (Asda from ebay)
1 dress (Blooming Marv from ebay)

Bought all of my maternity stuff last time from ebay. Mix of individual items and one larger bundle. Lasted me right through and meant that I wasn't bumping into loads of other mums to be in the same stuff, which can happen when you're buying from the high street. With all the tunic/smock tops available at the moment, you can focus on getting a selection of more fitted things, like skirts and trousers, and pick up much of the other stuff from your usual shops, just in a slightly larger size. Good luck

Sorry ladies, been out all day and only just checked back in, thanks for all your replies.
I'm 5'3" and a size 16 - 18. Hadn't thought of ebay at all, durrrr! I'm off to check that out straight away! Didn't know asda did maternity wear either.

If you have a big Debenhams, Red Herring do some lovely stuff. Agree with another poster about Next to Nothing stores aswell - I picked up some real bargains there.

Mojomummy · 13/04/2007 11:29

Damn, I'm 5ft 3, size 10ish.

Agree ebay is good for stuff as most;y maternity wear really isn't worn that much - at least mine wasn't. You think you're going to be pregnant forever, but really it's ovr in a blink.

MrsBadger sounds like a recipe for a good capsule wardrobe

HonorMatopoeia · 13/04/2007 19:37

Ahh, mojomummy, I dreamof being a 10ish!!
MrsBadger, I've noted down your list - really is brilliant!
