Makeup to hide cystic acne

PhDPepper · 13/10/2017 00:29

I’ve always had crappy skin- been on roaccutane three times and it’s looking like I need to go on it again.

I’ve got big red horrible cysts on my face that I cannot hide! I’m usually one for not wearing a lot of makeup but these are sore and making me feel a bit self conscious.

Any ideas how to hide them? I’ve got Bobbi Brown foundation but I’m running out so I’m up for changing brand. I quite like urban decay

. Do I need to put concealer on, then foundation then touch up stick?

Yes, I don’t see why not, I usually do a blob of lighter foundation on the back of my hand with a line of thicker one next to it and dip the blender into both. Works well for me :)

Lymcecline only works well whilst your on it. From my experience after the 6 month course concludes it will come back again. I had years on Yasmin and Dianetter which didn't have any positive effect. They are so annoying and always appear on my chin. Other than that my skin is generally ok but when these arise they're horrible.
I just use lots of ELDW.

Auspiciouspanda · 14/10/2017 15:51

Thatayla on YouTube has cystic acne and has tonnes of foundation videos if your interested.

IAmTheDragon · 14/10/2017 15:53

I had terrible acne in my early 20s, and I found the best concealer ever by accident.

You know that cheap, Dream Matte Mouse Foundation by Maybelline?

Buy some of that in your colour, leave the lid off and let it air for a week+. In fact, just never put the lid on it, leave it open at all times.

It starts to get thicker, less smooth and harder to apply as a foundation. A bit like a paste. Use it on big nasty spots - it clings to anything and everything and is completely and utterly block-coloured. Not sheer at all.

Was a total lifesaver for me.

Yes, toomanydicks (great name btw) I would assume you can mix any foundations not just the ELDW ones.

Have you tried veil cover cream? It's wonderful. You can get a sample pack with a few colours in and they deduct the cost if you order full size. Their website has some demo videos. Worth a look x

User - your acne sounds like mine. That’s disheartening about Lymecycline. I’ve been on it 3 Months. Gp has put it on a repeat prescription for me, under the understanding I have a month break every few months. But to be honest I expected that would be the case. I have clear skin at the mo for the first time in about 6 years, it makes me feel like a different person!

Flamingo - are you a fan of Flight of The Concords? Never met anyone who has heard of it before (I’m in the uk).

So many amazing idea thank you! I’m on antibiotics for my skin and zinerit roll on which is like fucking acid! I dropped it on the carpet last week and it bleached it.

Also got epiduo cream which stings like a bitch. I can’t go on the pill yet because I’ve still not had a period since my molar pregnancy in April and they want to investigate that and apparently the pill would slow that down?

I’ve ordered some dermablend and have an appointment to look at camouflage makeup next week.

In between my roaccutane to keep things at bay, I used proactiv. Would go back to it in a shot if my acne returned. Zinerit is awful and didn't work for me at all.

Best make up I found was estee lauder.

I wasn't aware you could go on Roaccutane that many times though? I was told twice was the limit which is thankful then that the second go did the trick. Does your acne clear up at all on it?

Proactiv is fab though.

Bare minerals do a blemish remedy foundation and concealer. The kubuki brush gives you full coverage and if you find you’re looking a bit red, you could re buff your skin without adding anymore product.

You can get a free colour match trial at any store.

Have you looking into Duac from the GP? It’s worked wonders with my acne. It took a couple of weeks but my skin is clear for the first time in years.

PhDPepper · 14/10/2017 20:57

@StarUtopia it was dreadful when I was 10. So my acne started to be horrendous at about 8 and I had to go on antibiotics and have scans for pcos that were negative.

At 10 I got referred to a professor of dermatology in Preston, he put me on roaccutane when I was 11, and I remember being told I was one of the youngest patients to go on it- it’s not allowed in pre-pubescent children now because it stopped my growth. The it was clear until I was 15 and then I was on it for 6 months at 15, and then 1 year at 22 I think?

It’s just so sore!

You can have several courses. Some people even stay on a maintenance dose of a small amount for a long time but you still have to have monthly blood and pregnancy tests so it's not easy.
Unfotunatley both my courses were interrupted and not full length because of appointment issues on the hospital's part. But they said if I want it again they will try to treat me at full dose for a year then maintenance for another 6-12 months. Good job I don't get too many side effects!

WeeM · 14/10/2017 23:38

I couldn't live without my EL Doublewear. I apply it with a real techniques brush. I also use la roche possey moisturiser and I think it's def helped the redness.
