Help - is this dress acceptable for a wedding?

It's a very swish wedding at a fancy country house type place. Bride, bridesmaids and most female guests are late 20s/ early 30s, very attractive, perfect figures, all beautifully groomed and accessoried.

I am not. Well I can trowel makeup on pretty well, and I'm not hideous. I am a fatty though (have definitely crossed over from chubby to fat).

So I have bought this dress. I have something similar so am hoping it will both fit and suit me. Otherwise I am totally up shit creek.

So if it is ok when it arrives...

Is it fine to wear to a fancy wedding?
How would you accessories it - I got the dress in the sale so have a little money to spend on stuff. But I can't even work out how to style my hair let alone what jewelry and shoes to wear!

I just don't want to look too much like a car horse next to all the thoroughbreds.

I see opinions are split!

Tp answer some questions, i am a sz 20. So yes I'm fat. No getting away from it. But I do have some shape and wear dresses a lot - picture is one I wore to a family christening earlier this year.

I'd say dress in my OP is a bit more formal than I generally wear. But I'm not dressing for a wedding every day. It won't make look thin but at my size nothing will!

Could you not wear the black one again? It's much more suitable for this time of year. The other print just screams summer garden party to me, however lovely it is. If your wear the first one, I'd choose navy accessories, navy shoes and bag and try to avoid any additional colour like metallic hardware on the bag etc.

sycamore54321 · 14/10/2017 13:55

Oh and stop comparing yourself to the other guests, even before you have seen them. That way madness lies.

ShirleyPhallus · 14/10/2017 14:09

Really weird to say that the other dress is too summary. It has long sleeves! I'd just wear it OP, think you'll look lovely

polyhymnia · 14/10/2017 14:20

I do agree that the first dress is summery, sleeves or not. It's the very pale/light background colour. Looks like a garden party.
I also agree the christening one would be a better bet, so long as you have or can buy something to cover arms and keep you warm. Floral patterns on a black or another dark ground are very in at the moment. In fact, personally I'd try to find something with a dark background like the second in a similar style to the first.

I think the Chistianing dress would work. And don’t worry about your size. You can look lovely regardless.

Merryhobnobs · 14/10/2017 19:25

I think the occasion rather than the time of year is more important and why should your wedding have a cast of entirely dark colour just because it is Autumn?

BubblesBuddy · 14/10/2017 20:48

I think it is ok. I think I would pair it with burgundy though not creams and sandals - just no! I would just find a pair of mid heel burgundy courts and a similar bag. If you don't feel the cold, a wrap would work well or a fake fur jscket if there is a cold snap.

Divingheadfirst · 14/10/2017 21:46

Its beautiful.

I love the style and shape and think it will suit u.

I certainly don't think its too summery for an Autumn wedding. IMO weddings are a time to dress bright, florally and fancy regardless of when the wedding is in the year!

JoJoSM2 · 14/10/2017 23:00

I'd also add a faux fur stole or jacket to glam it up.

I love it :) I’m sure you will look wonderful

Dowser · 14/10/2017 23:28

I love the pink dress.

fatweddingguest · 22/10/2017 23:04

So the dress arrived. It fits actually it's a little bit loose. It is very pretty and my DP likes it. I possibly do look a bit sofa like but I'm fat, no getting round that. Won't make me look like a sz 10 because I'm not.

Anyway the issue now is what colour shoes/ bag. Dress is quite a bit more pink than it looks in the picture...

Do I stick to cream? Or go for navy? Or something else like rose gold?

I would pick out one of the colours in the dress and go with that. Navy could be very nice.
