Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEWish since previous threads:

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

NEW since the last thread:

A Damaged Skin Barrier - Now What?

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

OCTOBER 2017: It's our snailaversary Cake! Our baby ripe toddler skins are about a year old now, or rather getting together on these threads about a year ago. I can't believe we're all still finding things to chat on about between the hair disasters. I know I always encourage a bit of catching up at the beginning of the new thread with how everyone's skin been progressing over the last couple of weeks/months but now I'm demanding more Blush and would really like to hear how everyone is doing a year on now, or however long you've been with us. Basically, pledge your undying love for these threads Grin

NB: I've removed the form from the OP as I felt there really wasn't a need for it anymore. I think I've also answered enough of those forms in their previous incarnation for a lifetime so it may just be a selfish decision but it's been made Halo

I am so sorry, forgot to space that when copy-pasting!

mintmagnummm · 17/11/2017 12:18

No problem bo any thoughts or comments? I used it last night and this morning, no stinging at all so only time will tell now. Thank you for suggesting it.

Tsmummy08 · 17/11/2017 12:50

Pupsie Have you used the Neal's Yard Rose oil? I'm sure someone on here has.... I bought it the other day as a possible solution to my need for something juicier and it's really working nicely - a drop or two before moisturising in the morning as well as at night. And it smells delish, which my Caudalie C15 oil doesn't....

Tsmummy08 · 17/11/2017 12:54

All in all, I'm pretty happy with my skin at the moment, which isn't very exciting is it? On a slightly disappointing note, Nude skincare seems to have gone under, so I'm lamenting the demise of the Omega cleansing jelly which I LOVE - and Space NK don't have any left online Sad #firstworldproblems etc etc

Pupsiecola · 17/11/2017 13:25

Yes tsmummy I do have the NY Rose Oil. And that's reminded me to dig it out as I've not used it over the Summer. Thanks for the nudge.

I am trying the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair from the sachets I got in Boots. I am liking it very much.

I also repurchased the Darphin Intral serum which I am really enjoyed. Thinking about it, my skin hasn't been so good since a I switched from a couple of staples. Lesson learned.

botemp · 17/11/2017 13:46

Bani, I'm on my phone and your ingredient lists are doing my head in. I'll look properly later.

It looks like they swapped out a few Ingredients, mint, but nothing major. No initial reaction sounds positive so I hope it works out for you.

Nude skincare was a bit of a fragile brand there for awhile already. Shame though, never got to try the cleanser but I know it was much loved.

Rose oil is nice in winter, and even though I've never paid for it (always have samples knocking about) ANR has for a long time been my go to skin pick me up. It's quite comforting but I've never really felt it does much long term.

OP posts:
mintmagnummm · 17/11/2017 13:58

Thanks bo

mintmagnummm · 17/11/2017 14:05

Bo do you think ANR would be of benefit to me? Obviously not right away as have just started something new in my routine as you know.

banivani · 17/11/2017 16:10

bo yes I do apologize for them ... but I don't want to spam by doing another post. Was sneak posting at work while waiting for pdf files to combine into folders ...

botemp · 17/11/2017 17:54

Well I'm still on the phone, Bani, so will continue to scroll past them quickly Grin

Mint, really tough to say. There really aren't any irritants in ANR but some people have horrible reactions to it and that really is down to the fermented ingredients. It's easier to get hold of a sample than a lot of Asian skincare so I always find it a good litmus test but it's amazing for some, tepid for others and highly aggravating for others. It's really difficult to predict.

OP posts:
mintmagnummm · 17/11/2017 17:59

Ok thanks bo. I will ask for some samples and then give it a try once skin a bit settled and I know for sure the eucerin cream and Vichy spray are ok.

botemp · 17/11/2017 18:02

If you're a bit sensitive elsewhere, scalp, inner wrist or similar you could try it there first, maybe? From what I understand the reaction to it when it's bad is quite immediate almost like an allergic reaction, though with some it develops over time.

BagelGoesWalking · 17/11/2017 18:26

Evening all! Botemp I’m resting samples of the Dr Jart Ceramidin l and Cicapair creams - and liking them.

Someone has recommended ATOPALM, particularly the Real Barrier intensive cream. Another recommendation is the Apieu Madecassoside Cica Gel - any info on these brands? It’s all so new to me 😬 Thanks in advance - it’s so helpful to get the benefit of your knowledge and so appreciate it.

mintmagnummm · 17/11/2017 18:38

Thanks bo although I’m sensitive everywhere lol my face is definitely the most sensitive and even when a products doesn’t cause a reaction elsewhere my face will react.

botemp · 17/11/2017 18:49

Yeah Atopalm is a known name in the US but mostly popular in SEA where I believe it's pushed by derms. It's weird, it just looks like a spendier version of Cerave, probably nicer to use.

The Cica Gel is a French pharmacy imitation product, more similar to the Eucerin B5 product than the LRP one but it's inspired by those.

I've not seen reviews on either, they're on the more expensive side of AB so less users.

OP posts:
BagelGoesWalking · 17/11/2017 20:50

So I could try some of the Eucerin Aquaporin products and get similar results?

BagelGoesWalking · 17/11/2017 20:52

And thanks again - such knowledge! Loving the S&B French fashion thread at the moment as well. Grin That Stole company should be paying you commission!

botemp · 17/11/2017 21:29

I should at least get a free stole of my own!

French brands are highly revered in SK (Eucerin as well) but they're really expensive so it gets kind of weird when the SK do the French thing and then Europeans start buying the SK versions Confused it does happen occasionally that the imitation exceeds what it was imitating but having never tried it I wouldn't know but the Eucerin Aquaporin does have a longtime following so there's that.

EnidButton · 17/11/2017 21:33

The size of it bo, I’ll probably be able to throw half of it across the sea and we can both wear it at the same time. Grin

botemp · 17/11/2017 21:48

At least we'll be warm Grin it is pretty big though, hence why I wanted to do the one shoulder belted thing. You can quite easily fold it over lengthways as it's just a lined backing and it's much more manageable then.

Bugger! I'm in thread crossover confusion central, I no longer know where I am Shock

BagelGoesWalking · 17/11/2017 22:17

😂😂😂

itchywanksocks · 17/11/2017 22:24

Hi! Just working my way through the links in the OP, you lot are GENIUSES I tell you.

Just had a nip+fab binge in their 50% off wake, for their glycolix fix trio in the morning and their cleansing balm / x strong acid pads / viper gel at night, pure guess work in what I’m doing so far.

I need something better to get my make up off. And like the idea of a double cleanse to be extra fresh at night. I’m not a fan of the viper stuff or using the deep cleanse fix every day (liked it as a mask though), so looking at something to sub in for them instead.

mintmagnummm · 18/11/2017 07:07

Oh dear I was reading this thread thinking I’m sure I clicked on fantastic skincare, so was a little puzzled by the folding belts in half etc Grin.

GoGoGazelle · 18/11/2017 07:37

Can I ask a cleanser question? I have a balance me one, a Superdrug hot cloth cleanser and clinique ttdo oil. Which do I use when?! Thanks for the advice - am working through the excel info and want to look at adding Stage 3 products in in Jan.
