🐌 Fantastic Skincare: The Snailaversary and Winter is Coming, Luckily, we're Part Sheep 🐑

Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEWish since previous threads:

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

NEW since the last thread:

A Damaged Skin Barrier - Now What?

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

OCTOBER 2017: It's our snailaversary Cake! Our baby ripe toddler skins are about a year old now, or rather getting together on these threads about a year ago. I can't believe we're all still finding things to chat on about between the hair disasters. I know I always encourage a bit of catching up at the beginning of the new thread with how everyone's skin been progressing over the last couple of weeks/months but now I'm demanding more Blush and would really like to hear how everyone is doing a year on now, or however long you've been with us. Basically, pledge your undying love for these threads Grin

NB: I've removed the form from the OP as I felt there really wasn't a need for it anymore. I think I've also answered enough of those forms in their previous incarnation for a lifetime so it may just be a selfish decision but it's been made Halo

I updated my phone to the latest iOS and now the text on here is All skinny and wrong. There’s far too much white.

Not at all relevant. Just getting it off my chest as I’m too scared to start a thread on site stuff. Grin

miffy2 · 03/11/2017 14:11

FYI Skincity have 3 for 2 this weekend if anyone needs some more BR P50 :) (You need to go on the Swedish version of the site but it is quite manageable)

botemp · 03/11/2017 16:34

I kept meaning to post that on the balance of my Vit C dependancy love. She is a bit more nuanced in the comment section, where she explains that despite it's promise she can't consider it a standard ingredient of care for her practice based on the research available (though many dermatologists including Dr. Sam and Dr. Emma do view it as substantial enough, Dr. Sebagh is the biggest and long-standing pusher of Vit C, granted all these Dermatologists sell the pricey wares or have cosmetic lines wholly based on them, they also work more as cosmetic derms). She also seemed very surprised so many people are having success with it, quite a funny contrast to her other video where she discusses Niacinamide and is shocked to find so many cannot tolerate it, and shows a bit of frustration as one paper on it said the reaction was temporary, so advice is to persist with it but it's not something people with Niacinamide sensitivity are all that eager to listen to considering the discomfort. I think there is something to be said for touting Vit C as an all-round miracle ingredient though, it's very dependant on the formulation and since that's patented there aren't many alternatives worth pursuing.

Careful there, Enid, it's all fun and games until someone gets poked in the eye. MN needs a stern mummy emoji

Is that loophole still working in full effect miffy? If so, that's good to know. I will sensibly keep away from the 3 for 2 offer

OP posts:
miffy2 · 03/11/2017 18:45

Yes, bo, it worked for my latest order of a small bottle of P50...in that the order was placed and shipped anyway. It has gotten lost en route (the previous orders I placed with them were delivered within a week) but they have already shipped out a replacement. I told them if both packages turn up I will happily pay for the second one...so I won't be taking advantage of this current offer :)

TheNorthernTights · 03/11/2017 22:30

Excuse me jumping in, I'm a long-time reader and deeply appreciative of all the advice here and my skin thanks you all very much!
I'm trying to take advantage of the Skin City 3 for 2 - can anyone tell me what I should be entering for the Personnummer/how I can bypass it? (I'm in the UK)

I've been using P50 for nearly a year & don't get to London often, so Skin City would be a great source if I can get past the language barrier!

botemp · 03/11/2017 23:18

AFAIK Personnummer is a social security number, the format seems to be date of birth followed by five X's. I'd just follow that format and put in X for the X's. Or you can fill in your own SS number and see if it accepts that, I doubt it actually checks that but I think it's just by Swedish tax rules they need to put that on the bill for local orders.

OP posts:
TheNorthernTights · 04/11/2017 09:17

Thank you botemp a line of x’s worked perfectly!

banivani · 04/11/2017 09:28

Sorry for delay - this is the link to the radio programme sverigesradio.se/sida/avsnitt/963762?programid=2794 hope it works!

Will try to do empties form but don’t think I have any empties. Will now look at Skincity’s offer because I’m feeling an itch for more expensive stuff than TO which doesn’t seem to be doing all I want it to do but I hate spending money!!!

Pupsiecola · 04/11/2017 11:52

Must I went to Harley Street for a newish procedure to zap red veins. I don't have loads, but rather a general redness. I had it done for free because a new doctor (as in new to this procedure - he has been a dermatologist for decades) was being trained. I would highly recommend it. It didn't hurt - just a little elastic band flicking type sting. Bit red in places for a few hours afterwards. As an aside, I also flush quite easily, even after the treatment (although not as badly). Being in a warm environment, red wine, intense exercise all do it. Also if feeling emotional - anxious, embarrassed, cross. I try to manage the triggers where I can. Intense exercise is non negotiable though as it benefits me in so many other ways.

Been a bit busy here. Need to catch up!

I haven't got enough info to make for a useful empties post. I will add to it for next month. But I have a nia question. I'm thinking about not using a separate nia product. I have a couple of moisturisers with Nia in. Would this be able a worthwhile amount though?

They're:-

eltamd.com/product/pm-therapy-facial-moisturizer/

and the Cerave.

mintmagnummm · 04/11/2017 12:07

My skin is misbehaving again Sad

Ollivander84 · 04/11/2017 12:20

Faking good skin over here Wink and trying to look glowing!

botemp · 04/11/2017 14:38

Thanks Bani, will listen to it later. Totally nosey on what you're getting, I've been eyeing the Dermaceutic Retinol from them as well, I think it's expensive but not holy shit expensive like the Medik8 Retinoate. And after looking into the checkout problem with Northern, I've been totally roped in over tiny little trial sets from Biologique Recherche, how could I not know about the existence of those Shock

Pupsie, I think those two are quite similar, you're deciding between the two I assume? The Elta is sans ceramides but then has some sort of ceramide-like peptide, I've never heard of it but I mostly cast all peptides as a bit of wishful thinking.

OP posts:
botemp · 04/11/2017 14:39

Whoops, just realised I misread your question, Pupsie. Cerave PM is 4-5% Nia so just the right % and going by the Elta INCI I expect it'll be in the 3-5% range so totally fine, even with just a single application per day.

Tantpoke · 04/11/2017 15:35

On my wish list is Laura mercier or chantecaille foundation moisturiser stuff, however I have to say I'm more than happy with my new very fast make up regime of real techniques expert brush and TO foundation which I dont need to follow up with powder either so win win for me. Due to lack of time in the morning I'm not applying any other make up other than lippy but I'm happy with fresh looking skin.

JDSTER · 04/11/2017 16:13

Would these be any use to anyone? Body lotion with 4%urea. 13 tubes x 10ml. Photo with ingredients.

Pupsiecola · 04/11/2017 16:35

Thanks Bo. I have both - I just ordered the Elta MD. Used it last night. Feels very moisturising.

botemp · 04/11/2017 20:19

That concentration of urea may make for a nice hand lotion? Easy size for in a handbag too. How did you end up with thirteen of those, terrible office Christmas exchange?

I like the look of the EltaMD moisturiser, Pupsie, even with the weird ceramide peptide, mind telling me what you paid for it, or is it a US import through DH?

OP posts:
banivani · 05/11/2017 15:22

I’ll probably end up getting nothing since it’s 3 for 2 on BR only. I don’t want three things from them after all... but it’s 20% off Beauté Pacifique which is more tempting... I wish they did smaller sample sizes!

miffy2 · 05/11/2017 18:40

Ah sorry about that, I thought it was across the board at skincity. They have an offer on every week though, so it is worth signing up for them (and potentially learning a bit of Swedish :) )

banivani · 05/11/2017 19:24

I’m Swedish so I’m grand 🤗 but now I’m in an awful dither anyway as can’t decide whether to get Beauté Pacifique serum paradise or not.

miffy2 · 05/11/2017 21:19

Can't help you there banivani as I am not familiar with that one.....but I might need help with the language next time I place an order on the site LOL.

Has anyone tried Pestle & Mortar Superstar retinol night oil? I admit I am a big fan of their HA serum, have gravitated back to it time after time and for me nothing compares. However I did not really like their moisturiser, found it lacking in hydration and over-perfumed. I would love to give the retinol a try at some stage but thought I would ask here as I don't remember it being mentioned before.

miffy2 · 05/11/2017 21:29

Oh and I thought I would offer here.......

I have a sealed, unopened tube of Retirides 0.1% retin A, from Spain, bought from a chemist. It is too strong for me and the expiry date is 02/2018. I maxed out at 0.05% and am now trialling Differin so I won't get to use this. I know it is a non-prescribed cream but I think there are some here already using this.

If any of you are already using this strength and need another tube send me a PM and I will send it on to you. Hate to see it wasted.

botemp · 06/11/2017 10:30

I was interested in getting the return night oil from P&M before but never got round to it. However, since then the Ordinary Retinol in Squalane versions have come out and it's the same active ingredient so it's just a differentiation of types of oils used that makes the difference. The Squalane isn't the most cosmetically elegant as it really feels like a heavy slick of oil sitting on top of your face. Makes for an easy night routine as I just use that after cleansing plus the verso eye serum and call it a night. Someone dry may need more though.

OP posts:
banivani · 06/11/2017 13:57

Well, I bought nothing. There's a Danish online chemist called Med24 that sell Beauté Pacifique at good prices so I can always get stuff from them. I'm not getting another retinol product until I've empied the TO 5% Granactive Retinoid. I will however buy P50 next time there's a discount on single items. ;) Also, people, remember that Skincity does a GREAT advent calender campaign in december with fantastic offers. Keep eyes peeled and budget ready for that!

botemp · 06/11/2017 14:10

I need to start saving up for that advent calendar campaign again... I bought loads last time. I think it always ends with a pretty huge discount on everything on the last day IIRC.
