Just that. I'd wear this dress with tights or leggings .My (much more "posh" inlaws) have a Xmas party every year and thanksgiving, I'm the youngest adult there so is this just too much? I really like it

Just because the shop is called 'poshmark' doesnt mean it is. Wink

rightknockered · 12/10/2017 17:13

I think maybe ask other people what they will be wearing.
I wouldn't wear it, but I'm probably a little older than you

ShirleyPhallus · 12/10/2017 17:15

The posh bit of posh mark is ironic isn't it?!

Sorry OP, i think maybe some skinny jeans, nice cami and heels would be better? Or a nice, looser fit dress?

This dress is way overpriced for $68 too, it looks quite cheap I think

Bluntness100 · 12/10/2017 17:15

Depends on what kind of party it is, it’s not normal attire for a night with thr inlaws though Grin

Your father in law will love it though,,,

Silverthorn · 12/10/2017 17:24

Sorry couldn't resist. I would find out what type of party it is and what everyone else is wearing. Are they expecting eveningwear/ black tie type clothes or just a nice outfit. That dress is a but too short and clingy.

OlennasWimple · 12/10/2017 17:26

It's very short for sitting down to dinner, as it will ride up very high on your legs

PhatSlag · 12/10/2017 17:28

I love it, I wore something similar to a party at the weekend where I was the youngest person there.
Wore it with thick, black tights and over the knee boots.

verystressedmum · 12/10/2017 17:58

You should maybe wear it as a top with some skinny jeans and heels for the party.
Wear it as a dress another time.
It’s quite dear though for what it is, but it may be lovely in real life.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 12/10/2017 18:06

OP says she'd wear it with tights or leggings.
I'm possibly the MIL's age and I like it though perhaps effect would be wasted as I'd suggest keeping it hoiked up to cover bare shoulders, "Are you warm enough?"

PandorasXbox · 12/10/2017 18:51

If you’ve got a great figure then go ahead. I’d need some kind of undergarment to keep my spare tyre at bay!

Dustbunny1900 · 12/10/2017 19:28

Yeah I've never bought anything from "poshmark", probably very cheaply made, more the style I was curious about.

Yes I would definitely wear tights or leggings underneath haha
Not that I would look as attractive as the model anyways, I'm skinny with no curves

If they are 'posh' then sexy is the last thing they will think when looking at that....what even is that? Is it supposed to be a tunic?

Hairq · 12/10/2017 19:36

I think it's fine as long as it's worn with thick tights and flat-ish boots (not over the knee) and with the top part on the shoulders rather than off - I think it looks much classier that way.

FlossieCharlieCat · 12/10/2017 19:40

I really like it (but am too old now to get away with wearing something similar Sad). The only concern I'd have is whether it's too casual for PILs party.

Fekko · 12/10/2017 19:41

Dress? Are you sure it's not a jumper?! It would looks stunning on a 5"11 size skinny minny but not really on any real person!

My rule is - if you can comfortably run in it, dance in it and get plastered without flashing your boobs/under-crackers, then it's a good 'un!

PatMullins · 12/10/2017 19:42

You’ll probably be pulling it back down all night

WhyteKnyght · 12/10/2017 19:53

I think it would just about be OK if you're very, very short (so that it would be a lot longer on you than on the model). But otherwise, no - it's more "night on the town" than "sherry with the in-laws" to me!

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 12/10/2017 20:10

Was about to say the same as whyte; I think you'd get away with it if you are very petite (height-wise) and wear it with thick tights as you say. If you're tall though, I'd definitely give it a miss. I am tall and (formerly) skinny (currently pregnant and I hadn't even shifted the weight from dc1 before I fell pregnant with this one) and I remember feeling way too exposed and awkward in short dresses at in-law events. My in-laws are mainly short and mainly wankers though. Yours probably aren't!

Dustbunny1900 · 12/10/2017 20:27

I'm 5'6 and 8 stone

So medium height

But yea I'd wear it as a long tunic thing

I have a gorgeous merino jumper from aritizia which has the same neckline as that dress, it would look great with jeans/trousers and heels, much more grown up. I think that dress is more the sort of thing you'd wear clubbing to be honest. Here's the link to the jumper, it came from abroad but arrived quickly http://intl.aritzia.com/product/croquis-sweater/61218.html?dwvar612188_color=12629

FunkinEll · 13/10/2017 12:52

It's short and clingy but also casual I think. It's a definite no from me. There are so, so many other nicer dresses out there.

Dustbunny1900 · 13/10/2017 13:00

Thanks silkpyjamas, those are my colors too! I love off the shoulder looks
