Needing make over advice & recommendations

I'm 4 months away from turning 45.

I've never bern big on make up & only tend to wear it for a night out or a special occasion. A few months ago I started getting spots again & I started to use no.7 city lights tinted moisturiser, with a bit of blusher & (bottom lid) eye liner.

I'm basically crap with anything beauty & go through spurts of moisturising & using specialist face washes so I have a few blackheads too.

The tinted moisturiser ain't cutting it anymore & my face is starting to tell me I need a proper routine so I'm after some advice & recommendations to help this drab middle aged (apparently that's what I am) woman.

How do I get rid of these blackheads, what's a good foundation for my age, good moisturier, is my eyeliner dated?

I think I need a makeover 🙈 I'm loathe to go to a 'counter' without a recommendation as they'll just palm me off with their own product where they maybe a better one out there.

That's a lot of questions, and I don't think I'm up to answering all of them, but I would say re the eyeliner maybe consider a soft eye pencil instead, and use it on your top lid, and on the bottom, but only about a third of the way in from the outside of your eyes, then smudge. Generally it's a softer look. The no 7 foundations are pretty good IME.

I think bob’s advice is good regarding the eyeliner. You have to be honest with yourself about how much time you’re actually going to spend on a proper routine because full cleanse, moisturise, foundation, eye make up etc sounds like it’s going to be quite a jump for you.
I have quite bad skin and am not far off your age. I’ve tried all sorts of stuff including prescription creams to get rid of blackheads and I found the best thing is the boots number 7 face wipes (white packet with blue on it) and then use a normal
Cleanser with a flannel.
If you’re going to use a proper foundation then you really do need to go to a counter. I’m a big fan of Mac but you could also try trish Mcevoy. It’s worth spending a bit to get a good one. Good luck!!

Thanks to you both, you've give me a good starting point.

I will go to a counter, but the issue is which one - it's a minefield!

I get my eyebrows done at benefit so was going to ask them, I think I was just after a few recommendations.

I think I'm starting to feel my age but I don't want to look it 🙄

I'd start with a good skincare regime. A balm (Clinique Take the Day Off is excellent) or oil cleanser (I like the Una Brennan superfacialist vit c oil from Boots) with a flannel, a serum (the Ordinary Buffet is fab and not expensive) and then a moisturiser (I use the Ordinary Natural Moisturising Factors). I've also just started using the Sub Q eye serum from Hylamide in an effort to hold back the wrinkles that are seemingly suddenly appearing around my eyes.

Bobbi Brown is great for natural looking makeup. Might be worth getting a makeover there for some ideas.

I second Bobbi Brown, very natural and you can get all you need there (might cost you a few quid but lasts a long time and sounds like you haven't spent much over the years).
Just make it really clear you don't have much time.
