Waves rather than curls?

Which implement do I need? I have just had my hair cut into a long bob and would like choppy waves ala Caroline Flack, but my curling wand is making the curles too 'round' - any tips?

Have you tried using straighteners? Quite easy to do waves when you get the hang of it. Loads of videos on YouTube too.

octopusrus · 10/10/2017 17:24

No, haven't tried that, maybe that will work better?

I find a curling wand with a thick barrel gives nice waves. It takes a bit of practice using them without burning yourself but you can use the hand protector gloves thingys to start.

AntagonyAunt · 10/10/2017 17:38

There is an appliance that is designed to create waves. Its like a crimper but the 'crimps' are wave size. Think its babyliss.

Notanotheruser111 · 10/10/2017 22:10

Definitely a straightener, my hairdresser styles mine like that after a cut

Discofairypants · 11/10/2017 20:26

Straighteners and hairspray are your tools here! Don't curl right to the ends (I leave about half an inch 'straight' at the end). Once curled, run your fingers through to give a more tousled look.

Oh and try to do the waves/curls in alternating directions, too.

JesusTapdancingChrist · 11/10/2017 20:34

Do you mean this kind of look OP?

If so, then I use GHDs or similar plus the technique shown in YouTube tutorial. It takes a bit of practice but once you get the hang of it it's easy.

Sorry for my terrible photo cropping skills btw Blush.

Head band curls and sock curls are great.

octopusrus · 14/10/2017 15:30

Sorry for delayed reply have had no internet at home!!

Jesus yes that's exactly the look I mean. Thank you for the link, I'll have a look at the youtube vid now.

Pickle I often sleep on my back so I think a bun might annoy me! Guess I could try it on the top of my head?

If you plat it at night then take it out in the morning= waves

picklemepopcorn · 14/10/2017 17:24

It's quite soft, especially the sock bun.

PorklessPie · 14/10/2017 19:53

I French plait mine every night (in two). I also have the babyliss wave envy which despite people saying gives a crimped effect creates beach style waves on my above shoulder length hair.
