Come talk to me about lush henna!

Ok - so natural shitty coloured blonde but my hair was getting fried from the upkeep of keeping it a nice shade. I'm not one to shy away from bonkers colours and decided ginger is the way forward!

I've recently coloured with L'Oréal casting creme gloss In Amber (the 8 wash one) but it's already fading and I'm happy to commit to being a red head. I don't want to whack a regular permanent dye on as again I'll be trapped in the cycle of box dyes so was going to just keep topping up with a semi.

A friend has suggested lush henna and said it has worked wonders for no wrecking your hair further in the process, but I didn't get chance to grill her on the details and now she's on holiday. Has anyone used it? How do you do it?? Hints and tips gratefully received!

I used henna for a good while but my hair is very short so not quite as messy.
Loved the smell like Turkish Delight.
I did see Henera Henna Wax a while ago (Savers) and they do the s/c.
Conditioner is the best way to remove it from your hair. Rub in loads of cheap conditioner , rinse, repeat till clear then shampoo.

I started with brun then added a bit of noire each time. I got a gorgeous colour like a red setter but I never got the luminous shine.

I stopped a year ago (had hair cut and CBA henna-ing then just grew it out)
I'm using a Superdrug own brand dye now.

One of our guinea-pigs managed to henna himself ( I had my wrap on, DD was holding him while I cut his claws and he nudged his nose up into my hairwrap)
I can safely say no ill effects, wiped it off, but he did stain (white fur) .
It didn't make him shiney either Grin

It's permanent though op, you know that right?

Plus you can't dye over it - no hairdresser would do it (asked three) so I had to have a crop

sirbedevere · 08/10/2017 21:00

Yes I know about that it's mega permanent. A bit scary but I decided to commit!

The results are AWESOME! It was a bit of a faff of a process but I think the next time it'll be easier now I know how to do it. It's so soft and shiny too, and the colour is perfect!

It’s lovely!
When you’ve finished the block try Moroccan henna powder. You can buy 100g for about £3.50

And wine I've got multiple ear piercings, one quite new (8 months old) and it hasn't had any adverse effect - although I did take them out and rubbed some thick moisturiser over the holes to stop the gunk getting in. Hawdd!Grin

I used to use henna. Used to buy it from aisian supermarkets. Tried the lush henna once.the colour wasn't as intense as the henna from the supermarket.

I've been thinking about hennaing my hair to get a gorgeous auburn colour but it's been dyed dark brown for so long I don't know if it would work. I'm growing it out and trying to get it to fade as much as possible.
If I get a good cut to get rid of most of the dark do you think I could get a good strong auburn colour with henna?
