At last after years of wanting to I am having my long hair cut short, any opinions and style ideas wouldbe welcome.

For ages now I have wanted to cut my hair short but have just never had the courage to do it, always worrying if my partner would like it, would family and friends, well I have realised it is my hair and I want it cut short. All I ever do with it is pull it back in a band at my nape, I wear it loose so rarely nowadays. I feel that a simple stylish short off the ear look would be so much better for me, I will feel fresher and it will stop me moaning 24/7 about my blooming hair.

I know it is more maintenance but I feel I am ready for a new look after all these years. I have a dear friend who has a lovely short pixie cut whose hair always looks stylish and well groomed, it is a look I long for. I have booked an appointment with her hairdresser for first thing Monday morning before work to have the chop. She has asked me to bring in some styles that I like but I haven't a clue what will suit me so any advice or style pics would be appreciated. I want something low maintenance that I can wash daily when I shower and quickly blow dry, I would like a fringe above my eye brows as my hair grows so quickly as once it is styled short I wont be able to just snip off some fringe myself as I do now.

Any advice would be welcome, thanks everyone, I am so excited and I cant wait for the new me

It's gone! Here is the after pic of the new short me, I am so pleased with it. I arrived at the hairdressers armed with my fave style. The stylist Jayne spoke for quite a while about what short style to have, she wanted to be certain that I was prepared for the shock of cutting off so much hair. Jayne would have preferred a longer side parted fringe look as it is more on trend but on balance she felt it was best to go with what I wanted as a first cut as she did agree that this look is about as easy as you could get. She really wants me to be happy and has booked me in for a complimentary follow up trim and blow dry in 2 weeks so she can see how its doing and shape it up a bit more especially at the ears once it has started to settle into the new style.

I do understand what people have said that simple short can make us look older, I do feel that is correct but after years of all that hair I so want a period in my life of ultra easy, no styling just shower and go. Maybe in time I will grow back some fringe but for now I am so happy that it is no longer everywhere!

Your hair looks great, don't forget you can still play with styles for it to change it up. You have styled yourself just right with the big hoops. It suits you and the colour of your hair appears richer too. If you want to try a longer fringe later it won't take that long to grow one in.

Mine is super short at the moment but I'm aiming towards these 2.

I love my short hair. When I started work at 20 in a library I was enthralled by a stylish woman who had silver cropped hair and wore really unusual clothes
40 years later I think I am channelling her!
My hair is long for me at the moment, time for a trim
I always have a longer fringe and some layer ls so I can use styling products to change the look.

You look great! And younger too. It's great having short hair - I love my Anne Hathaway copy (albeit I must be literally 6 stone heavier than her so really don't resemble her at all!!!!)

I've just had six inches lopped off mine, so now sporting a longish Bob !
It feels so light and easy to manage, I don't know why I held onto it for so long. Embrace the new you, you know the old adage, "A change is as good as a rest". 🙋🏼🍷

One of the fab things about short hair is how easy it is to look different from one cut to the next, if you want to, because a couple of cm of growth makes such a difference. Mine is currently very similar to yours, but last winter I grew the front a bit for a change. Got bored and went proper cropped again a couple of months ago. Love it!

Very funky!! I was just reading in Cosmo about buzz cuts, but maybe that's a step in too far lol. Interesting how many people who'd gone for it started wearing bright lipstick though, like a pp said about your big hoop earrings!
