Never been in a store, none anywhere near where I live.

I'm planning to order online - merino knitwear and Heattech turtle neck tops as I WFH and trying to save a bit on heating this year.

What is the quality like, and more importantly please help with sizing. as I'm finding it quite confusing to understand their system.
I've seen that each item has measurements in the size guide, are these reliable?

I've found the guides fairly reliable.
The sizing is generally small because they're a Japanese company (although their ranges are different in Japan) There's a new store opening near us soon, it's very exciting!

SquirmOfEels · 04/10/2017 09:54

The quality is great.

I find the sizing pretty true, but sometimes size up one for tops as the guides give a snug fit.

JigglyTuff · 04/10/2017 09:57

Size guides are very true. I think their sizes have changed over the years to take account of European bigger bodies. As a general rule of thumb - S - 10-12, M - 12-14, L - 14-16

Quality is brilliant for the price. I'm wearing a Heattech top at the moment (also work from home) and it's about 5 years old, has been washed innumerable times and still looks/feels great.

I am often dressed head to toe in Uniqlo Blush

BarbaraofSevillle · 04/10/2017 10:23

I wear the heat tech tops and get a large. I'm 5'7 and a size 14. But I also have some merino knitwear and a couple of coats in a medium which fit OK too, so it's a bit hard to judge.

Having said that, I find their sizing more consistent and more generous than some other places like H&M. They're also good with returns. I think you have to accept that you have to buy more than one size and return what doesn't fit with internet shopping. Even if it costs money, it's less than it costs to get to even the nearest town or city usually.

I'm also disappointed that there are no Uniqlos anywhere except London and the south east, because I really like their stuff.

We have lots of new great shops in Leeds these days and I'm sure they'd do well, especially as we don't even have a Gap anymore.

PNGirl · 04/10/2017 10:42

I am a 12-14 and buy a medium in their UT ranges and a large in their Supima cotton tops, mostly for the length.

MarjorySunshineDust · 04/10/2017 10:45

I'm a 12 and have the merino knitwear in L or XL. I've found the sizing varies a bit between colours in the jumpers.

RoseWhiteTips · 04/10/2017 10:55

Uniqlo is brilliant - especially online. The merino knitwear is excellent and usually in classic colours. Have coats, skirts and a bag from there too. A class act. Love it.

ThatsPoker · 04/10/2017 11:20

I just bought a merino wool sweater - i am a size 12/14 top - and i wanted a casual, 'boyfriend' slub look so ended up buying an XL although i totally could have got away with the size L.
Also bought their Bretton top in a medium.

BeastOfCraggyIsland · 04/10/2017 11:48

I'm wearing a Uniqlo heattech v neck top under a Uniqlo merino v neck jumper today. I love their stuff. I'm 5'7 and a size 8 and either xs or s fits me depending on how fitted I want it.

Floisme · 04/10/2017 11:52

I think they're ok, in fact they're one of my few 'go to' stores but I din

Floisme · 04/10/2017 12:04

Sorry no idea what happened there! Where was I? I don't think the quality is always that great. It can be but I find it very inconsistent e.g I will never understand why their cashmere is rated so highly because the stuff I've had was shit and I'll never buy it again. But I've never had a problem with their merino knitwear.

I think the best thing about them is their collaborations because they tend to go for more interesting designers than most and I'm looking forward to the next one with Christophe Lemaire.

Sizing can also be random I find, especially on the collaborations. I tend to order at least 2 sizes.

Floisme · 04/10/2017 12:06

I don't get on too well with their colours either.

Igneococcus · 04/10/2017 12:14

I just bought this fleece crewneck in purple and love it. It's snuggly and warm. I wanted something that folds small enough to fit into a handbag and I can wear under a coat on the way home on the train in winter when I'm travelling for work and it is perfect.

Pithivier · 04/10/2017 12:18

I buy a lot from them and I think there sizing is on the small side but consistent. I wear a 6 or 8 in most stores and I find their small is perfect.

it depends on whether you like a tight or loose fit. For a comfy fit I would go for XS if you are a 6. S if you are 8 or 10' and M if you are 12 14

Pithivier · 04/10/2017 12:20

As for quality I would say it is value for money. It won't last like dearer brands. The best buys, in my opinion, are their underwear, night wear and lounge wear.

SquirrelPlantedBeech · 04/10/2017 14:21

Very helpful replies, thanks everyone.
I've ordered two merino turtle necks and two of those Heatech fleecy crew necks mentioned upthread.
All ordered in two sizes even though I hate doing returns.

Big fan. I'm a 12-14, curvy bum and usually go for a large. The Heat Tech stuff is very good, just right for working at home and don't feel bulky. The tops sit nicely underneath other things and the tights are mostly-toasty. Happy to recommend.

Where's this new store going to be?
