What size am I? web app

I'm sure the inconsistency of retailers' random vanity sizing has been done to death

But I tried this web app, which crunches different brands' size guides to recommend which size you should wear based on your own measurements

http://sizes.darkgreener.com//_

Wish this was updated with more brands, as this is the sort of thing that would be so so useful for online shopping! I'd be really interested to see how H&M and Hush stack up, as I find their sizing comes up particularly small / large respectively. eg most shops have me at a 6 - but I'm simultaneously a size 4 in a designer brand (size 2 US / size 6 UK leather leggings from Net a Porter were too big, had to get the size 0 US) yet also a 10 in H&M (trying on denim shorts I couldn't even zip up the 8). Madness!

Just posting the link here FYI in case anyone hasn't seen if but may find it useful

Interesting!

I'm either measuring wrong or the site is wrong. It reckons I should be a 4 or 6 in most shops when I'm a 10-12.

ZeppelinBend · 03/10/2017 20:07

About right for me at size 8 for most things or 6 (no way). Doesn't take into account I have broad shoulders, judging by bust I should be an 8 but anything with sleeves I have to size up.

ZeppelinBend · 03/10/2017 20:09

Accidentally did you hit in US measurements rather than UK?

AccidentalyRunToWindsor · 03/10/2017 20:25

@ZeppelinBend no I checked. I must be measuring wrong I'm sure. I do have a massive tummy and thighs so maybe that's what's screwing it?!

I'd looked into this before and it was massively off (due to boob measurements, which really aren't that impressive but larger than the norm in smaller sizes according to that chart), so just curious whether this scheme works better for certain body types than others?

When looking at online measurements I'll look at the waist size and only consider hip measurements if it is very tight fitting. I don't generally have an issue with my size not fitting around the bust but that chart would indicate I'd need to size up 3 sizes Shock where the reality is I find it hard to find body-fitting tops as it is. So is it equally inaccurate for other hourglasses or am I just the exception?

Dustbunny1900 · 03/10/2017 21:02

Hour glass shapes get rated much much smaller

CountFosco · 03/10/2017 23:19

That suggested I should wear bigger sizes than I have to! In my experience there's quite a discrepancy between the published sizes and the actually sizes, e.g. most brands have waist sizes much larger in practice than they state on their website. So, e.g. with measurements of 36, 30, 37 that says I should be a 12 in M&S (and most other shops, presumably because of my waist size) and yet the last pair of slim fit trousers I got from there was a 10 and really I should have got the 8. I then got a size 8 skirt and it fits fine. I do wish they would actually tell you the actual dimensions they are fitting to rather than trying to flatter us.
