Where do I get the best beauty advice without having to buy anything?

I've just turned 60 and decided I have to do something about how I look. Up till now I've been very low maintenance - a bit of mascara, lippie and a quick brush of my hair and i 'm done.
I have to get a bit better at this, but don't want to sit out in public in a shop while it's done, don't want to feel I should buy the products and would much rather be done by an older woman.
Any suggestions? Also, has anyone upped their beauty routine this way as they've got older?

Most beauty counters will do a look for you but you do have to sit there - don't worry though as people don't tend to stare honest!

My favourite is Clinique, friends of mine like Benefit, Bare Minerals, Boots no 7, Clarins etc

For real luxury try Dior!

If I have a make over I do usually end up buying at least one product as I think it's cheeky not to; one of my friends won't buy anything tho as she always says she has to 'think about it'!!

Have a look at the beauty counters in dept stores / boots and see which ones have assistants you'd feel comfortable with, then book an appointment.
Also best to choose a brand within your budget as you are quite likely to want to buy a product.

Also look on youtube for mature make overs

Either go to a Beautician or do the leg work yourself by looking up blogs and YouTube clips.
If you want someone else's help one to one you're going to either have to pay for it (Beautician) or purchase items (advice from beauty counter).
It's all trial and error and using stuff until you find what suits you.

I would say YouTube. So many people do YouTube now so they review products and show you how to apply it.

There are people of al ages on YouTube aswell. You will find someone you like and relate to I'm sure.

I never get makeup demos in the shops the lighting is also shit I always feel they judge me because I don't wear a full face and spend hours on my hair to pop to boots or selfridges! Sorry!

You can also get samples on eBay if the products if you don't want to get the whole bottle of foundation say. People sell smal samples x
