Need a totally fantastic moisturiser

I need some help-my skin is suddenly (in the last 6 months) crap-dry/flaky, but weird breakouts on my nose and around chin, massive pores, dull looking, lines.

I'm late 30s, have eczema, and have used body shop cocoa butter for the last 20 years and it's always been great-til now.

What can I do? What is a fantastic thick moisturiser that you love that won't make me scratch my face into an eczemery hell.

I'm not looking to reverse time or lose my lines, but I really don't want to be this flaky grey mess!

Also, if anyone knows if a brilliant hair conditioner-that would be great too, as my hair is a frizzy disaster. As you can tell-am looking pretty amazing rn.....

I really love The Ordinary moisturiser with HA, it's only £4.99

bitchpleaase · 02/10/2017 22:23

Aveeno.

kohl · 02/10/2017 23:25

Thank you both for suggestions-aveeno is ordered.
bullet fox I've had a quick look at The Ordinary stuff-I am a total dunce when it comes to a skin system-are you meant to use it just by itself, or with something else?

It's entirely up to you what you use it with but the thing I love about it is that it's neutral (won't interfere with other treatments) but at the same time is a lovely, fatty thick moisturiser with hyaluronic acid and inexpensive which sinks in quickly :)

coffeekittens · 03/10/2017 06:11

Do you exfoliate regularly op? When my skin became dry and sensitive I stopped exfoliating and became a flaky grey mess

Timefortea99 · 03/10/2017 06:50

Take Starflower capsules - 1000mg a day. Moisturise from within.

CaptainWarbeck · 03/10/2017 06:52

Thanks bullet am going to try the Ordinary one. Been needing a new moisturiser.

theaveragewife · 03/10/2017 06:55

Embryolisse with rosehip oil mixed in, Embryolisse can be used as a mask, cleanser and moisturiser - it is really thick and clean.

With The Ordinary it's best to email 'Victoria Health' shop and they will send over a list of products that will suit you.

Another vote for Aveeno. Its magical!

silkpyjamasallday · 03/10/2017 07:16

I recently bought sanoflore rosa Angelica 48 hr moisturiser, it is incredible and all organic I saw a difference overnight the first time I used it, I also use neals yard frankincense intense which again is natural and organic and really thick and creamy but sinks in nicely. I have found a lot of products that aren't natural make my rosacea worse. Also second pps suggestion of rosehip oil in combination with a moisturiser a couple of nights a week.

SilverAndCold · 03/10/2017 07:24

Have a look at Vichy Normaderm Anti Age- has worked a treat for my combination oily/dry/confused skin. Have just also started using Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum as I get weird dry patches on my forehead and edges of nose in the winter so want to fend it off before it kicks in- has mega positive reviews from the likes of Sali Hughes etc so chances are is up to the job.

SilverAndCold · 03/10/2017 07:28

Normaderm Anti Age particularly good combination skin with breakouts- got rid of mine when used in conjunction with a good cleanser and flannel (I use Priori AHA Gentle Facial Cleanser but any good chemical exfoliant cleanser would work)

bleughhh · 03/10/2017 07:34

Hmm. I'd go to the GP - do you have one who specialises in dermatology? Our practice does. I would be very gentle in the meantime though particularly with the cleanser - try avene or la Roche posay creamy cleansers for sensitive skin and wipe off very gently with a warm flannel. Only put moisturiser where you need it. The HA is probably a good idea but definitely best to talk to a doctor!

BluebellGal · 03/10/2017 07:44

You probably need exfoliation, hydration and oil replenishment

Liquid exfoliater (the ordinary or pixi glow) followed by serum (Superdrug does a non perfumed one called simply pure) followed by a moisturiser

AugustAngst · 03/10/2017 07:47

I have similar skin and I use Clarins Hydra-Essentiel for very dry skin, it's lovely. It is perfumed though which might be an irritant but by some miracle it's ok for me. Also I use their Shea butter gentle foaming cleanser. If you find your nearest Clarins counter they'll give you fee samples.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 03/10/2017 07:52

Rosehip isn't a particularly hydrating oil. If you're going the oil route I'd opt for pure Argan, or avocado, something richer.

When my skin feels particularly dry/dehydrated I have a few days on just Astral. Thick and gloopy, but less so than blue pot Nivea. Have always used it on my neck and my neck. Also love Neal's Yard Frankincense Nourishing (more so than the intense, as I prefer the texture) and good old Nivea Q10 anti wrinkle. (£4.99 from everywhere usually)

The Simply Pure cheap as chips serum is one of the best I've used (and I have about 10 in my cupboard- but this is the one that really makes my skin feel soft. Lots of serums I find so full of -cones that my skin just pills off with them. Another one which I've recently tried and loved is Bodi Beauty BUlgarian rose serum from Amazon. A colleague was using it this summer and it's lush.

I'm a leedle but Hmm about The Ordinary. (and I speak as someone with their Hyaluronic Acid, Retinol, Buffet, and Vit C serums, as well as Niod Opaque photo primer and Hylamide SubQ for eyes (sucker for the publicity me???) I know in the scheme of things the ranges are cheap(er) but the Superdrug and the Bodi Beauty equally as cheap certainly do more for my skin.

banivani · 03/10/2017 07:53

I don't think just a moisturiser will cut it. Sounds like you need to exfoliate, and look over your cleansing maybe? What is your current cleansing routine? You might want to read the "great skincare" threads from the beginning. Smile

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 03/10/2017 08:11

I wouldn't use rosehip oil on your skin.

kohl · 03/10/2017 10:57

Thank you all for this totally brilliant advice, need to get some work done, but will read properly later and will almost certainly be back with questions if people don't mind.

I have no cleansing routine, my entire skincare regime is wash face with warm water, slap on cocoa butter; as I say, I am an utter dunce.

Aveeno is wonderful stuff, they also do cleansers, facial washes and scrubs, maybe worth a go?

secondhoneymoon · 03/10/2017 15:03

Have you tried E45? It's my go to when skin is flaky

battenbergbutterfly · 03/10/2017 15:12

Astral is brilliant for this

papayasareyum · 03/10/2017 15:50

use a good night cream too, it will soften your skin overnight making it more prepared for makeup etc the following day. M&S have a new ultimate sleep cream out which is amazing
