Normally have fairly good skin.
For about 4 weeks I’ve had constant small, angry spots around my mouth and on my chin. They just don’t heal or go away! I’m using Sudocrem but that just seems to dry them out - any have any quick fixes?

Well for starters step away from the sudocrem.

Then look at Caroline Hirons skincare blog. Get into a routine, try and get some Ordinary skincare if you can (really good stuff which is very cheap and much more accessible than a lot of what Caroline Hirons suggests you try)

I’m nearly 35 and my skin has gone wild, same as you spots around my mouth/jaw line

I’ve started using Paula’s choice bha and that is helping

Anyone tried coconut oil?

I use the Ordinary salicylic acid on areas with spots and it definitely shortens the lie span and severity of them. It's very cheap. Neutrogena etc also do a salicylic treatment product.

Buy a flannel too and make sure you use a clean one every night when washing face. Get a balm cleanser and do a two-step cleansing routine in evening if you wear a lot of makeup each day. Then get an acid involved for exfoliation if you can, and a good serum.

You don’t need to spend loads- Superdrug have some great serums and acids, and The Ordinary also do the same.

I wouldn’t put coconut oil anywhere except my hair or my body. If you’ve got red, angry spots on your chin coconut oil is going to do bugger all to help them.

Could it be an allergy or reaction? Anything you changed 4 weeks ago? Soap, toothpaste, makeup, shampoo, washing liquids ...?

GaryBarlowsTaxReturn · 01/10/2017 12:11

No to coconut oil! It's highly comedogenic and will cause spots, not help them.

Only thing that gets rid of my spots is topical antibiotics from the GP.

Do you think it could be perioral dermatitis? I had that and thought it was acne for a while so made it worse.
What worked was ONLY using water on my face to clean and the tiniest amount of a very mild moisturiser when necessary. No creams. I also bought a second hand Lumie Clear light on eBay which helped.
I think the cause of it for me was hydrocortisone cream. I’d been applying it to my son who has eczema and obviously touched my face before washing my hands properly.

So I’ve been out and got the neutrogena face wash and simple rapid action zapper. Wish me luck!
