Christmas drinks and lunch in the Gherkin - what to wear??

Not often in London, and certainly not at Christmas. DH's works do - champagne and nibbles then a meal at a smartish restaurant. I tend to be quite casual normally (jeans/short skirts with tights and boots) so don't want to go too OTT. I was thinking of a thickish dress that I could wear with tights and boots and a leather jacket. Am I completely wrong here? Please help! I have this dress but think it's probably too "ordinary"?

Any help most appreciated. If it helps I'm 5'7 and about 11 stone, with large norks.

I work in the city and for my Xmas do I usually wear a black dress - last year a Whistles slightly sparkly knitted dress with suede ankle/shoe boots and some more accessories than I wear to the office and more of a going out handbag. Not overly dressed up but more effort than usual. Lots of ladies do get more glammed up.

I don't think your dress would be too ordinary with some funky accessories at all by the way! It's lovely! Smile

Is it day or night do?

I'd say then tights and boots are ok but the boots must be neat, dark and relatively dainty-ish. With s little heel. Not chunky leather with a flat sole.

You could team the black dress you have with berry tights, black suede ankle boots and a berry coloured bag (if you suit or like berry colours, alternatively grey can be nice with maybe a mustard/citrine coloured bag). The main thing is to look fairly groomed. No scuffs on boots, no pulls or bobbles on jumper dress etc.

*if day, not I'd say!

Thanks, I think I will have to be more dressed up than I was anticipating. Probably have to ditch the Doc Martens thenGrin

Well, you could wear docs and a leather jacket but you'd need a thicker skin than I've got to pull it off! Grin however for some people who that is their natural style, they look right in those things. I still stand by the no scuffs/no bobbles on dress though Grin
