Help me with make up

Please help. After many years of not giving a shit (or not having time to give a shit) I'd like to start looking nice again. So I toddled off to Boots with a load of cash on a mission to buy Nice Make up.

But it's all changed! I don't understand it. It used to be foundation/powder/blusher, then eyes and lips. Now it's all primers and plumpers and contours are I don't even know what else.

I'm mid 40s, I want to look nice and groomed, but not particularly like I've got a face full of slap.

Can someone take pity and tell me what to buy/do/where to start?

You can still do your old routine. The contour, primer etc are extra steps.

Why don't you do a make up demo with benefit or body shop or one that you like. Plenty do them.

This happened to me. I ran home and ate biscuits and then watch d loads of YouTube videos. I have been lucky enough to find some who use the same foundation shade as me pre kids (that's the 8year old one I'm still using) so I just literally copy them. I then plucked up the courage to go for a redeemable makeover at Bobbi brown (others do this too), and I now have a make up routine. It's time consuming and you have to allow extra time to slap it all on. You also have to buy extra strength make up remover too.

There's some pretty amazing stuff and it's easy to see how people become junkies. Good luck and have fun!

Primer is good. It'll help your foundation stay put, and the right one sort of smooths you out.
You don't need to do the whole contouring schtick - if you're living in the real world and not Instagram, it can look terrible.
Second the poster who suggested going to the counters and booking a demo....and don't feel pressured into buying stuff if you're not convinced, there can be a bit of trial and error involved.
My best advice and demonstration of products has come from the Urban Decay sales staff in our local Debenhams, even though I'm 100 per cent sure that at 52, I'm in no way their target market!

Have a look at Lisa Eldridge on you tube.

Maudlinmaud · 29/09/2017 11:58

Did you buy any products?
I think your best bet is to go and have your make up applied for you at a beauty counter. The clarins staff are usually lovely, they will show you how to apply everything. They will tailor it to suit the look you want and they aren't too heavy handed. There is a gift on at boots at the moment too, bonus!

I second Lisa eldridge, she is a fab makeup artist and her looks are always so classy and straightforward.

I didn't buy a thing and then fled.

I don't think I'm brave enough to have someone do it for me so it sounds like YouTube for me. (Make up on youtube - who knew?Smile)
