Hi all.

HELP

We have been invited by our neighbours to a 50th birthday party at their house. The invite has specified "evening dress required" I am having a major breakdown as to what to wear, I battle with depression, anxiety and a crippling self-loathing and hate being in social situations so would have been in a panic about the invite anyway but this request has tipped me over the edge. Sad

I have recently lost 2 stone but am still very, very overweight. I wear a size 24 top and 22 bottom, have a very large belly and revolting bingo wings so anything sleeveless/tight or short sleeved is out of the question. And I am only 5ft 2 tall, with very short, fat legs. God, I sound like a right catch don't I Sad

I rarely wear anything but black and it would have to be long, but because I'm so short it would no doubt be too long so would have to be suitable to take up.

Cost isn't really a issue, but the cheeper the better as I doubt I will have an occasion to wear it again, and we will have to pay to hire a dinner jacket for Dh

We received the invite today and the party is on 21st October, so there isn't much time.

What am I going to do?

Hi

I totally recommend ASOS curve range. It's free delivery and returns so just order loads and see how you get on.

Congrats on the weight loss.

Honestly, I would seriously consider going to a department store and seeing if they can help you with make up. Not that I think you are a sow's ear, but honestly it is amazing how much better a little foundation and a few products can make you feel. You don't have to look "done" or wear lots of heavy makeup for it to make a difference. I find my confidence is loads higher if I have good make up. Benefit are a good brand to try for more natural looking makeup.

There's lots of clothing options suggested on this thread. ASOS is great as you can try things on in the privacy of your own home, and send them back if they aren't right.

Good luck, and I hope you manage to find something you like.

Fudgesmummy then this is the perfect opportunity to treat yourself.
I can recommend No7 tinted moisturiser and a little mascara and lipstick.
They have 3 for 2 on at moment.
Even if you do bite your nails buy a pretty pale pink just to give your nails a lift.
And then buy a gel or mousse and funk your hair up a little.
No excuses!

Debenhams personal shopper. Brilliant. She found me a lovely dress for ds2's holy communion.
