What's your favourite sulphate free shampoo?

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 24/09/2017 16:41

I've been avoiding sulphates in shampoos etc for years as it dries my skin and I end up itchy and sore.

I've tried so many shampoos and I can't find one I like. I've tried all of the following
Dr organic - changed formulation am do now it's too watery
Body shop - meh
Organic surge - didn't really do anything for me but smelt nice
Jason
Faith in nature
Green people - meh - not worth the £

So... other than spending all the money on Aveda, what shall I try next?

I use cantu but I follow the curly girl method .

Silverstreaks · 24/09/2017 16:53

Can I ask what conditioners you use that don't irritate your scalp?
I've probably used all the shampoos on your list at some stage and have found it's silicones in shampoo and conditioner that compound the scalp problem.

eurochick · 24/09/2017 16:56

Id tried most of those without success for my itchy dry scalp. L'Oréal low shampoo has largely solved the problem.

fuckweasel · 24/09/2017 16:56

Have you tried Kind Natured? Available in Boots and not very expensive.

margaritasbythesea · 24/09/2017 16:59

I have just started using LÓreal Botanicals Safflower and really recommend it. I have tried many, many SLS free shampoos!

BulletFox · 24/09/2017 17:17

Lavera used to do a rose milk one which I loved. I think they've renamed it.

Haven't used it for yonks as waitrose was doing a discount on korres shampoo.

ElfrideSwancourt · 24/09/2017 18:06

I've tried them all too - Roots and Wings is nice. I'm also doing Curly Girl now so only use shampoo for washing out hair dye, and my hair is in fantastic condition.

brogueish · 24/09/2017 18:12

The one by Boucleme smells amazing.

BarchesterFlowers · 24/09/2017 18:15

We currently have faith in nature lavender and geranium in a pump dispenser for family use.

I also use Daniel Field organics (mail order), I don't stick to the same one but I like it.

Jasons jojoba was my favourite Jasons.

BarchesterFlowers · 24/09/2017 18:16

Some of the other Jasons were too drying - which ones have you tried.

HelenaDove · 24/09/2017 18:17

Ive been using Elvive Colour Protect Low Shampoo about once a week or so over the last three months

Its been ok most of the time but a couple of times its left my hair feeling lank. I used it again last night and hair feels bloody awful today.

The problem is the pump It comes in a bottle with a pump and the instructions are that you have to use 10 to 15 pumps. I normally use 10 as i did last night. But the thing is each time you press the pump a different amount comes out so its too hard to get the amount exactly right. It really needs to come in a tube

I’m using Palmers at the moment, either the olive oil or cocoa butter one. It’s not amazing, but it’s ok and doesn’t irritate the SD on my scalp. I’ve tried loads; Body Shop is underwhelming and the best ever was Naked from Boots but that was discontinued. I read that it’s been relaunched as Noughtie but I don’t know if it’s the same. That’s next on my list to try.

For conditioner I use either Fructis or Alberto Balsam honey, both from the pound shop. They are CG approved so free of silicones.

starryskies78 · 24/09/2017 18:28

I recently found Faith in Nature and it is lovely. Seems to be refusing offer in Superdrug too,

There are a lot of types but I've loved the 3 I've tried. Soft and silky hair, my is very fine and usually quite frizzy so I'm happy.

SprinkleOfInsanity · 24/09/2017 18:42

Watermans grow me shampoo & conditioner. It has transformed my hair.

peppykoala · 24/09/2017 19:03

Vichy Dercos Ultra Soothing (online, never seen it in store in the UK), OGX is my backup/airport purchase (some of their shampoos have no sulphates, but not all).

Blahblahboo · 24/09/2017 19:07

Dr organic hemp oil shampoo. It's amazing

andbabymakesthree · 24/09/2017 19:08

Moo Goo range for years now

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 24/09/2017 20:05

Kind by nature - tried that and it irritated my eyes and skin badly
Palmers - got the olive one ATM (not sure why I forgot it!) the shampoo is very harsh, and the conditioner is pretty rich feeling. They balance each other out but I don't like them. Also the shower is suddenly really slow to drain - not sure if that connected to the thick goopy conditioner?

I'm tempted by moo goo...

Keep the recommendations coming! :)

Espa shampoo and conditioner is just fabulous, smells divine too.

wiltingfast · 24/09/2017 22:58

Bioderma Node (non detergent) shampoo has been a revelation.

My scalp was so irritated and sore I had small sore lumps on it.

I still get some small irritation with the bioderma, but it is by far the best I've found.

here

It is very watery though, it would be hard to use if your hair is very thick.

wiltingfast · 24/09/2017 23:00

I've tried moogoo.

The body wash is amazing.

The shampoo irritates a bit but is not too bad.

BulletFox · 24/09/2017 23:42

Klorane mango. Smells gorgeous

TheGhostsOfPresidentsYetToCome · 24/09/2017 23:47

I use roots and wings shampoo and conditioner. I have to go for the moisturising one or my hair is like straw.

I also switched my face wash, body wash and bubble bath to organic surge otherwise I get the itchy lumps all over my body too.

SophieGiroux · 24/09/2017 23:51

I like L'Oréal ultra riche shampoo. Only seems to be available in Superdrug now but quite often on a 3 for £10 deal
