Please tell me where is good for bra measuring!

I did the whole Rigby and Peller thing years ago and wasn't all that impressed... fair enough, they probably measured me correctly (I seem to remember I was a VERY odd size according to them, something like 38AA which is pretty impossible to get bras in tbh) but obviously they're at the expensive end of the market and I ended up spending close to a couple of hundred quid on three or four bras. Also I kind of hated all of them, they weren't terribly stylish or appealing.

I don't have that kind of spare cash these days (actually, i barely did back then!!) and so would like a cheaper option.

I have never heard anything good about M&S but maybe this has changed.

I don't want massive amounts of choice, nor anything boudoir-y, I just want someone to help me find T-shirt bras, in nude/black/white, that actually fit me properly and don't give me weird double boobs (some achievement given that I hardly have ANY boobs at all) or gape emptily, making my tops look weird above them.

Shoul I measure myself? Is there some new way?

It just seems, anyway, like all the different brands are subtly different in size. So maybe a letter and number is unimportant.

That said, even not having much idea what size I am and taking loads to try into the dressing room, I STILL can't find a bra that fits me properly.

Help...?

Anywhere else? Should I be trying to measure myself?

Sorry, no idea why the question about measuring myself ended up repeated there at the end...

I got to bravissimo but I have large cup boobs.

A few friends like Debenhams x

JessiCake · 20/09/2017 20:32

Thanks Groovee, yeah I had heard about Bravissimo but I really am very tiny of nork. I think they only do large cup sizes?

Might try Debs, was in there the other day trying stuff on and got the rage because all their T-shirt bras come in a two pack AND YOU CAN'T TRY ONE ON WITHOUT THE OTHER DANGLING DOWN BY YOUR SIDE AS THEY'RE LINKED WITH A TAG Angry Angry Angry so I gave up in high umbrage.

My dad went to Boux Avenue...they were lovely. Really helpful and offered loads of different styles. Tshirt bras were about £16 I think.

I think m&s is alright, could you go to a couple of places to get measured and chose the best option on what you like the look of and decent price?

My favourite to get measured and the bras I took home were Ann summers, super comfortable and lovely looking but I wore them to death so dont know if the quality was rubbish or I just washed them far too much.

DubiousCredentials · 20/09/2017 20:37

Do it yourself using this guide. And let us know how you get on Grin

Chimchar · 20/09/2017 20:37

Oh fuck!! What a typo...my DD. Not my dad. He does not ever wear a bra as far as I am aware!!! 😂😂

QueenMortificado · 20/09/2017 20:37

Wow chimchar, and great he shared that with you Grin

JessiCake · 20/09/2017 20:50

Ooooh, Dubious, that links looks good, thank you, will try it... is it generally reliable/possible to get an accurate results without needing a degree in advanced mathematics? Grin

Thanks for the Boux Avenue tip, hadn't heard of them. Glad your dad found them helpful there Grin Grin

Dairymilk, maybe I'll give M&s a go, I never have as I know they have a bit of a bad reputation in this dept but I have no personal experience of them being rubbish.

Don't do M&S - they generally don't have a clue and will likely put you in a bra far too big in the band and small in the cup (as they use the old-fashioned +4" method which makes no sense). You're probably best measuring yourself as per the boob or bust link above or google "the better bra campaign" and then trying loads of different styles/makes around your size to find your perfect fit. I'm not one of the MN bra experts but there are brilliant posters on here who can advise more specifically on different styles to suit your shape.

For smaller sizing I would say John Lewis. Debenhams can be hit and miss, JL lingerie staff tend to be quite old school but very capable. Their own t shirt bra is very good (according to a smaller sized friend!).

Try Victoria's Secret. I used M & S for years but never really had a good fit. VS are brilliant and really helpful staff.
